Football starts with a win: 58-6

The Avalon Lancers Football teams opened up its season with a 58-6 win over Discovery Prep High School last Friday. The game was in Avalon’s favor for most of the night and the heart and focus shined through.

The Avalon Lancers Football teams opened up its season with a 58-6 win over Discovery Prep High School last Friday. The game was in Avalon’s favor for most of the night and the heart and focus shined through.

Avalon’s first team offense scored on every possession they had and the second team capped it off with multiple scores of their own. Avalon’s offense tallied up a total of 403 yards. Senior running back Cesar Ventura led the game with 106 rushing yards and freshman running back Jason Campos also racked up another 78 yards rushing in the second half. Scoring was a team effort with nine different players contributing.

Ventura had three rushing touchdowns, senior running back Jose Carmen had another two touchdowns, sophomores Jaime Alaniz and Mark Tamayo both added to the touchdowns alongside junior David Luciano Zellar with his own score. Senior Jason Cisneros had a perfect night kicking going 4/4 on extra point field goals.

Avalon’s first team defense was relentless allowing 28 yards and second team also doing their part ending the night with 54 total yards allowed by the other team. Senior linebacker Jose Carmen led the defense in tackles and also had an interception returned for a touchdown. Senior defensive end Harrison Hobbs was a constant frustration with multiple hurries, a forced interception and starting the team off with one of the many sacks of the night. On the other end of the line was senior defensive end Javier Martinez who racked up 2 points off of a safety.
