Islanders recently received a letter from Southern California Edison announcing plans to close Edison’s business office on Catalina.  Edison is waiting for approval from the California Public Utilities Commission. Edison expects the commission to make a decision later this year.

“This is one of 11 offices SCE plans to close for this type of transaction across its 50,000 square mile service territory this year because of lower use due to the rapid growth of other billing, payment and service request options,” according to a written statement issued by Edison.

“While the Business Payment Office will close, the Service Center will remain open to support other services, such as planning, maintenance and construction, including emergency power restoration and field services (turn on an office, reconnections, etc.).  Recent remodeling is not related to the business office closure,” according to Edison.

According to the company, customers will still be able to pay their bills in-person may do so at Catalina Discount Variety, at 210 Metropole Ave. #C. For more information, call 1-888-367-7178.
