Catalina Island Health has announced Dr. Jenny Wang, board-certified dermatologist, has been added to the visiting specialist rotation. Her first visit to see patients on the island will be Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Dr. Wang is the founder of SoCal Skin and Surgery, and a highly regarded board-certified dermatologist, specializing in medical and cosmetic dermatology. She graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor of arts degree with general honors in biology. Wang was also honored as the recipient of the prestigious Jeff Metcalf Research Fellowship. She earned her M.D. with distinction in research from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she was not only a member of the esteemed Alpha Omicron Alpha Honor Society but also awarded the Einstein Research Fellowship.
Wang completed her dermatology residency at UC Davis in Sacramento following a transitional internship at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. As a resident, she demonstrated a strong commitment to quality improvement and service, achieving the remarkable distinction of becoming the first dermatology resident to receive the GME High Value Competition Winner in Quality Improvement. Additionally, she served as Vice Chair of the UC Davis Resident Medical Committee, where she provided invaluable support to house staff during their medical training.
Notably, her impact on dermatological research has been significant. As a clinical research fellow at the UC Davis Department of Dermatology, she focused on psoriasis, pyoderma gangrenosum (PG), and other complex inflammatory skin conditions.
Additionally, her research fellowship at Weill Cornell Department of Dermatology led to the discovery of a novel cAMP microdomain that inhibits the growth of cancer cell lines, thereby opening new horizons in melanoma cancer research.
A dedicated member of the American Academy of Dermatology, she actively contributes to the Teledermatology Committee and the Dermatology Resident and Fellow Committee, underscoring her commitment to trainee education and ethical standards. In her spare time, she enjoys spending quality moments with her family and dog, and snowboarding.
