Coyote Joe’s wins softball tournament

Defensive play ends game with potential tying run at plate

The final game of the Fall 2024 Catalina CoEd Season was an exciting game for the Tournament title between Bravo’s Landscaping and Coyote Joe’s. Bravo’s Landscaping was up to bat first and promptly scored two on the two RBI home run from Marco Gallegos.

Coyote Joe’s answered back with six runs on four walks, a base hit, a sacrifice flyball and doubles from Nestor Cubillas and J.D. Laflin. In the top of the second Leo Aguilar hit a solo bomb over the ditch for Bravo’s Landscaping.

Coyote Joe’s added to their lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run from Nestor Cubillas, followed by doubles from J.D. Laflin and Ron Bevins and an error to bring home a total of three. Bravo’s Landscaping crept closer in the top of the fourth with four runs off a walk, a base hit, doubles from Marco Gallegos, Mario Jimenez and Leo Aguilar.

Marco Gallegos made the highlight reel in the bottom of the fifth with his layout catch at shortstop to deny Gustavo Gutierrez an extra base hit. In the top of the sixth, Bravo’s Landscaping tied it up with two runs off an error, and doubles from Marco Gallegos and Sergio Vallejo.

Coyote Joe’s regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with three runs off a base hit, a walk and a triple from Omar Aguilar, who tried to stretch it into an inside the park home run, but was tagged out sliding at home. Bravo’s Landscaping got their last at bat and with two out got two runners on from a base hit and a double from Brayan Aguilar, but a ground out ended the game. Final score Bravo’s Landscaping 9, Coyote Joe’s 12.

For Bravo’s Landscaping Marco Gallegos and Leo Aguilar were three for three. Mario Jimenez, Brayan Aguilar, Sergio Vallejo and Alexandria Tran contributed one hit.

For Coyote Joe’s Nestor Cubillas was three for three. J.D. Laflin collected two hits, while Hugh Bevins, Ron Bevins, Omar Aguilar, Jose Barreras and Edmundo Vega collected one hit.
