Coyote Joe’s, Straight Up Builders win

Catalina Express took on Coyote Joe’s in softball game one of the night. Allan Casillas opened the game for Catalina Express with a solo home run. Coyote Joe’s used a base hit and a double from Ryan Hinkley with an error to score two in the bottom of the inning. 

Defense ruled the next two innings. Amanda Younger made a great catch in right to rob Nestor Cubillas of an extra base hit. In the fourth Catalina Express got back on the board with another solo home run from Allan Casillas, followed by the three RBI homerun from Tyler Engel. 

Steven Marcy made a great catch in left to rob J.D. Laflin of an extra base hit in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, a key error kept the inning alive, and Coyote Joe’s took advantage of that, hitting three base hits and doubles from Ryan Hinkley and Francisco Bravo, along with two more errors to score six and take the lead. Allan Casillas hit his third home run in the top of the fifth for Catalina Express. 

Tyler Engel followed with an RBI triple. Coyote Joe’s turned another error into a run with the RBI double from Sean Sterling. Coyote Joe’s added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth off the double from Ryan Hinkley. Catalina Express got their last at bat. Nestor Cubillas hit a triple and scored on the base hit that followed. No more runs came home, and the game ended with the score Catalina Express 8, Coyote Joe’s 11.

For Catalina Express, Allan Casillas was four for four. Leo Aguilar, Tyler Engel, Reed Woodyard and Stephanie Martinez all contributed two hits. Nestor Cubillas and Steven Marcy had one hit. 

For Coyote Joe’s, Ryan Hinkley was three for three. J.D. Laflin had two hits. Contributing one hit each were Juan De La Cruz, Francisco Bravo, Ron Bevins, Sean Sterling, Laura Priest and Cathy Ponce.

Game two featured Straight Up Builders and Eric’s on the Pier. Straight Up Builders got off to a fast start, with six base hits and doubles from Chuy Sillas and Daniel Paradisi to score seven. Eric’ on the Pier Beto Martin started it off with a double and scored on a base hit. Brandon Franco followed with a two RBI home run. 

Straight Up Builders kept the pressure on, scoring six more in the second. Chuy Sillas and Manny Hernandez had doubles and Jose Cuevas a triple in the effort. Straight Up Builders added another run in the third when Elias Romero hit a double and scored. 

Eric’s on the Pier got back on the board in the bottom of the inning with two base hits, doubles from Beto Martin and Robert Reyes, and a three RBI home run from Brandon Franco to bring home six. 

Daniel Paradisi hit a solo home run for Straight Up Builders in the top of the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth with time expired, Eric’s on the Pier got their last at bat and turned a single into a run. They fell short of the win, with the final score Eric’s on the Pier 10, Straight Up Builders 15.

For Eric’s on the Pier, Beto Martin was three for three. Brandon Franco was two for two. Robert Reyes also had two hits. Joe Talsky, Javier Jimenez, Kyle Ostentoski, Victor Moreno, Christy Alegria-Flynn, and Marisol Perez all contributed one hit. 

For Straight Up Builders, Chuy Sillas was three for three. Briana Morones also had three hits. Brandon Franco, Paul Daniel Romo and Gabriel Alvarado were two for two. Jose Cuevas and Manny Hernandez also had two hits. Bart Glass, Alex Romero, Elias Romero and Leah Quarnstrom all collected one hit.
