Coyote Joe’s, Bravo’s Landscaping in finals

After a long break, the Catalina Co-Ed League got back in action Thursday night for tournament play. The first game was a disappointing forfeit by The Lobster Trap – handing the victory to Coyote Joe’s.

The second game was a great battle between Bravo’s Landscaping and Straight Up Builders. Bravo’s Landscaping was up to bat first. Five singles and a fielder’s choice brought home four runs.

Straight Up Builders answered with back-to-back home runs from Josh Flynn and Jose Octavo. Ryan Hinkley hit a double, but was thrown at third. In the second inning, Joe Hernandez hit a double for Bravo’s Landscaping, but was left stranded.

In the bottom of the inning, Joe Hernandez made a great throw from his knees to get the first out. Jimmy Felix made a great catch at third for the final out. Bravo’s Landscaping had three singles in the third for a run.

Straight Up Builders rallied in the bottom of the third. Four singles, a double from Josh Flynn, triples from Jose Octavo and Daniel Felts, along with a two-run home run from Ryan Hinkley brought home seven runners.

Bravo’s Landscaping took the lead back in the top of the fourth. Two base hits, a triple from Justin Hernandez, and home runs from Joe Hernandez and Jimmy Felix had five cross the plate.

In the fifth, Bravo’s Landscaping put up three more runs on two base hits and a two-run inside-the-park home run from Justin Hernandez.

Straight Up Builders kept it close. Josh Flynn started with an inside-the-park home run. Jose Octavo had a triple and scored on a base hit. In the top of the sixth, two singles and a double from Jose Cuevas brought home one run for Bravo’s Landscaping.

With time expired, Straight Up Builders got their last at bat. With two out, one in and bases loaded, Jose Octavo was walked for an RBI. Down by one run, with bases still loaded, and two outs, the final out was a long fly ball to left, and the catch was made. Bravo’s Landscaping won the game by a score of 14-13.

For Straight Up Builders, Josh Flynn, Jose Octavo and Ryan Hinkley were all three for three. Manny Hernandez, Jim Hinkley and Amanda Younger collected two hits. Bart Glass, Daniel Felts, Ricardo Leyva and Margery Williams all contributed one hit.

For Bravo’s Landscaping, Jimmy Felix was four for four. Also with four hits, were Jose Cuevas and Joe Hernandez. Justin Hernandez and Tyler Engel collected three hits. Santiago Martinez, Rachel McCormick and Sarah Costa each contributed one hit.

The final game of the Catalina Co-Ed season was played on Thursday between Coyote Joe’s and Bravo’s Landscaping.
