Concert set for Cherry Cove on Sept. 4

For The Islander

Get ready for Catalina’s most unique and fun music experience:  a concert on the water while floating in your dinghy in Cherry Cove.

Last year there were upwards of 150 dinghies filled with boaters from all over Southern California creating the largest raft up on record at the island.

Boaters came wanting to enjoy a magical evening of great music while floating on the water and they were not disappointed! The concert will start at 5 and end about 6:30 p.m.

Get ready for Catalina’s most unique and fun music experience:  a concert on the water while floating in your dinghy in Cherry Cove.

Last year there were upwards of 150 dinghies filled with boaters from all over Southern California creating the largest raft up on record at the island.

Performing were Dave Barrette and Warren Cross, fellow Cherry Cove YC members. They sang and played songs by Neil Diamond, Jimmy Buffet, The Bee Gee’s, The Kingston Trio, and other classic rock and roll of the ’60s and ’70s. A crowd favorite is a song Dave wrote and was co-produced with Warren that has caught on as a favorite amongst the boating community, called “Catalina Moonlit Night.” It is available on iTunes and can be viewed on youtube.com as well.

After the huge success of last year’s show, Dave and Warren looked to see how they could make the show even better this year.  Two boating/musician friends are joining them this year. Jeff Parmer, who plays lead guitar, sings lead and harmonies, and plays sax as well and Tom Barile another friend from the 4th of July YC who is an accomplished drummer that will get the crowd “moving and a grooving” to the beat this year.

The performance this year will be enhanced with a larger sound system and Dave’s oldest son, Seth, will be mixing the sound wirelessly from out in one of the dinghies. An overhead drone will be filming overhead as well.

All that can be said is: Don’t miss it. It’s a once in a lifetime experience to hear these guys in a concert on the water in Cherry Cove on Catalina Island!

Put it on your calendar, Sunday Sept. 4, from 5 – 6:30 p.m. on Mooring B-11 in Cherry Cove, behind Warren’s boat, SEA CRUZ.

As Dave’s song says, “It’s just another day in Paradise” on Catalina Island.
