Nine young women Islanders will be receiving a boost to their upcoming college plans as they were the recipients of the recent Catalina Island Women’s Forum scholarship awards.

These awards are made possible by the great community support received for the Forum’s annual raffle, held in June, and the upcoming Wine Festival in September. First prize in the recent raffle was a $3,000 travel voucher.

Second and third prizes were donated by the Lobster Trap and the Catalina Island Company.  Winners were Gina Cappanelli (1st); Marilyn Toland (2nd) and S.M. Crosser (3rd).

The Forum appreciates the support for its upcoming Wine Festival, Sept. 21, where participants will enjoy al fresco wine tasting, savory appetizers and relaxing live music on the south beachfront in Avalon. All proceeds are used to support the Women’s Forum scholarship and mentoring programs for Avalon High students.

It is the mission of the Catalina Island Women’s Forum to foster relationships based on developing the professional and personal growth of Catalina Island women, Women Making a Difference.
