The city of Avalon’s Community Service Dept help bring a little thanks to Thanksgiving with their Annual Food Box for community members who could use a little help for the Holidays. This year the city gave 45 Thanksgiving dinners which included a Turkey or a Ham, yams, green beans, mashpotatoes, gravy, homestyle suffing, cranberry sauce, Hawaiian rolls and a Pumpkin Pie.

Although COA organized it and handed it out the dinners, it would not be possible if it wasn’t for our community members; Von’s for donations of the Turkeys and food boxes, Catalina Beverage for the fresh vegetables and yams, Rotary club/Lion’s Club/Catalina Island Company/Best, Best, and Krieger for their generous contributions that help pay for extra boxes and turkeys to make sure we can help as many as needed.

As we prepare for the Christmas Food Box, the city is asking members of the public to let them know about someone who might need a little help this Christmas. Contact the city of Avalon at 310-510-0220 to get their name on the list.

City staff members hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and will keep that thankful spirit alive into the next year.
