In a celebration at the Avalon School Gym, the Lancer football team received their time-honored traditional memento, representing the team’s CIF-SS football championship, won in November. The team was presented with the traditional championship rings. And like most team championship rings, the bigger and gaudier, the better.
“Oh my God, they’re amazing, I really don’t think they could have come out any better,” Head Football Coach Nick Morones said.
Morones took the lead on getting the rings ordered and he kept the process and design a top-secret, so the players and most of the coaches had no idea what was coming. He reached out to Baron Championship Rings, a company that has created rings for major college and professional teams. They sent him several samples, but none seemed to fit the bill.
Morones discussed it with representatives and even sent some Lancer merchandise, so they could see the team logo. With some tinkering and re-designs, the company came up with the final product, a ring that has the Lancer Jouster over an outline of the island.
The Lancer is surrounded by sparkling jewels and each ring has the participants name on the side. There is also a nod to the school’s 100th anniversary, which occurred in 2024, alongside of the team’s championship run. Principal Emma Peguaro and Athletic Director Carlos Martinez emceed the ceremony, with families and fans in attendance.
“It just capped off the season,” Morones said.
He also noted that for returning players, he told them to enjoy the moment, but start looking to next season, when the Lancers will attempt to make it back-to-back titles.
