Annual fundraiser for Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber goes virtual this year

Chamber Day/Eve 2021, the annual fundraiser for the USC Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber, will be held Wednesday, May 5. The Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber has been treating victims of diving accidents for 47 years.
Less than half of the hyperbaric chamber’s income from a contract with Los Angeles County. The rest comes from Chamber Day contributions from divers, clubs, shops, manufacturers, organizations, publications and dive boat operators.
The chamber was in operation throughout the statewide lockdowns.
The chamber’s expenses haven’t changed. But because of the pandemic, this year’s Chamber Day/Eve will be a a 100% virtual event.
“So this year, we’ve created virtual dive boats for each of vessels in the Chamber Day fleet: real boats, fake dives,” according to the Chamber Day website.
“We’re also adding a Daytime live-stream webcast this year, available ONLY to those who sign up for a day boat or the Dutchman,” according to the Chamber Day organization.
Speaking of the Flying Dutchman, a long-standing online event, hasn’t changed. Sign up, indicate your favorite shop, provide you “pirate name,” and pay the Flying Dutchman fee. (Same before: $95.)
