Summer officially started last week, but the heart of the summer season will be felt on Thursday, when the celebration of America’s Independence returns. As is customary, Catalina Island will ring in the holiday with its usual celebration, a day and night filled with events, activities and of course fireworks.
The city of Avalon has partnered with community organizations to bring this years’ day, themed, “Making of the Magic Isle: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.” Events will begin at 10 a.m. on July 4, with the golf cart parade. The full day’s schedule will include the Fourth of July Parade along Crescent Avenue at 1 p.m. and the fireworks display is scheduled to begin at approximately 9 p.m.
Cost of the day’s events has been shared by the City and the Chamber & Visitors Bureau, but they are seeking help to cover the costs without it impacting other services by the organizations. The public and businesses can help by donations, or sponsorship opportunities. For information on how to help, visit Catalinachamber.com or call 310-510-1520.
