Catalina Realtors start fast, grab early lead

Cat Express, Straight Up Builders combine to drive in 40 runs

Week three of Catalina CoEd Softball had Hamilton Cove Real Estate taking on Catalina Realtors. Julian Tejeda opened the game with a solo home run for Hamilton Cove Real Estate. A base hit was followed by the two RBI home run from Nick Morones.

Catalina Realtors answered with six runs off two base hits, an error, a double from Joe Hernandez, a triple from Robert Reyes and a three-run home run from Jim Felix III. Catalina Realtors added two more in the second off a walk, a double from J.D. Laflin and a triple from Joe Hernandez.

In the third Gabriel Alvarado hit a double for Hamilton Cove Real Estate, but was left at second. Catalina Realtors put up one more run in the third off two base hits and a double from Ryan Adkins. The fourth inning saw three more runs for Catalina Realtors, this time using an error, three base hits and a double from J.D. Laflin. A double play ended the inning for Hamilton Cove Real Estate.

Catalina Realtors kept the pressure on, two errors, five base hits, a two-run home run from J.D. Laflin brought home five with two outs when time expired and the game was called. Final score Hamilton Cove Real Estate 3, Catalina Realtors 17.

For Hamilton Cove Real Estate Gabriel Alvarado was two for two. Julian Tejeda, Nick Morones, Alex Herrera, Julio Chavoya and Tiphanee Anderson all had one hit.

For Catalina Realtors J.D. Laflin, Ryan Adkins and Teagan Machado collected three hits. Robert Reyes, Joe Hernandez, Jim Felix III, Jim Felix IV and Aimee Casillas contributed two hits.

Game two went from dull to exciting between Straight Up Builders and Catalina Express. Straight Up Builders was up first and brought home three runs on four base hits and an error. Catalina Express took their turn and rallied with three walks, five base hits, doubles from Margery Williams and Enrique Bravo, and home runs from Marco Gallegos (two home runs in the inning), Luis Lazaro and Leo Aguilar. A total of fourteen runs came home. Straight Up Builders didn’t give up and used errors, 3 base hits, doubles from Selina Morones and Brandon Franco, and a triple from Jim Hinkley to bring home seven.

In the bottom of the inning Catalina Express left bases loaded. Straight Up Builders took that momentum into the third and put up another seven runs on six base hits, errors and a triple from Brandon Franco to take the lead. In the fourth inning Straight Up Builders added to their lead with another five runs off five base hits, a double from Brandon Franco and a three run inside the park home run from Juan Hernandez. Catalina Express got their last at bat and used an error, three base hits, a double from Leah Quarnstrom and a three RBI home run from Luis Lazaro to bring home four. They fell short, and the game ended with the score Catalina Express 18, Straight Up Builders 22.

For Catalina Express Marco Gallegos and Omar Aguilar were three for three. Leah Quarnstrom also had three hits. Luis Lazaro, Leo Aguilar and Margery Williams contributed two hits. Jose Octavo, Enrique Bravo and Judy Quarnstrom had one hit.

Final game of the night was between Bravo’s Landscaping and Coyote Joe’s. Bravo’s Landscaping scored a run in the first off an RBI double from Tyler Engel. Coyote Joes opened with a solo inside the park home run from Nestor Cubillas. Two base hits, two errors, a double from Ron Bevins and a triple from Francisco Bravo brought home a total of five. Coyote Joe’s put up four more in the second off walks, errors and two base hits.

In the third Mario JImenez hit a double for Bravo’s Landscaping, and scored on the double from Jose Merino. Bravo’s Landscaping added another run in the fourth off the solo homerun from Sebastian Sanchez. Coyote Joe’s answered with a run off an RBI double from Francisco Bravo. Both teams were scoreless in the sixth and final inning. Final score Bravo’s Landscaping 3, Coyote Joe’s 10.

For Bravo’s Landscaping Mario Jimenez was two for two. Justin Hernandez, Sebastian Sanchez, Tyler Engel, and Jose Merino contributed one hit.

For Coyote Joe’s Francisco Bravo was three for three. Gilbert Hernandeaz, Ron Bevins and Diana Rios collected two hits. Nestor Cuibllas, Hugh Bevins and Gustavo Aguilar had one hit.
