Six young women islanders have received a welcomed boost to their upcoming college plans as the recipients of the Catalina Island Women’s Forum scholarship awards. Honored for their academics and community participation were Alexa Dwelling (who received the STEM scholarship through the Forum’s partnership with So. Cal. Edison), Stephanie Hernandez, Lizeth Martinez, Faith Glass, Jazmine Cruz Martinez and Tanya Chavoya Hernandez.

These annual scholarships are made possible by the great support received by the community and Southern California Edison through the Forum’s annual raffle and its wine festival. While these events are in abeyance in 2020 due to the Covid virus precautions, many in the community continue to support the good work of the Forum through donations, which can be made through the Forum’s website at info@theciwf.org or mailed to P.O. Box 1377, Avalon, CA 90704. All proceeds are used to support the Women’s Forum scholarship and mentoring programs for Avalon High students.

It is the mission of the Catalina Island Women’s Forum to foster the relationships of Catalina Island women while developing their personal and professional growth.
