After 41 years as Avalon innkeepers, Martin and “Bernie” Curtin have sold the Catalina Island Inn and are looking forward to their retirement.

With its 1907 Victorian architecture and clean contemporary style, the Inn’s 40 rooms have a reputation for comfort and charm.

In the 1980s the Curtins added nine King Balcony rooms and three family rooms that would accommodate up to five people.

In 2013 they unveiled their new King Private Patio Fireplace Rooms and Suites. With their strong ties to the community, Martin and “Bernie” have donated or discounted hundreds of rooms for stranded or distressed visitors.

They faithfully support Avalon civic groups and local non-profits and have contributed gift certificates to many mainland fundraisers.

Catalina Island Inn has welcomed celebrities, Film Festival stars, professional athletes, recording artists and even the Stanford Symphony orchestra.

Thousands of couples, friends and families have returned to the Inn time after time and year after year.

The Curtins are the embodiment of optimism and hard work. Their leadership and vision made them great bosses but their integrity, respect and compassion make them great people.

They have inspired their staff and business associates for more than four decades.

Congratulations Martin and “Bernie” and best wishes. They are happy to be remaining in Avalon and look forward to spending more time with family and friends. The Inn’s staff under the direction of its new owners Pacifica Host Hotels will remain dedicated to providing a superior lodging experience for guests.
