Catalina co-ed softball opens season

Catalina Express and Straight Up Builders opened the Fall season in the first game. In the first inning, Allen Casillas had a double, and Tyler Engel hit a three-run home run for Catalina Express. Straight Up Builders answered with seven runs off six base hits, an error, a double from Bart Glass and a triple from Jose Cuevas.

Santiago Martinez had a double in a three run second inning for Catalina Express. Straight Up Builders answered with three more, with a double from Selina Morones helping out. In the fourth Catalina Express added two more runs off the home run from Leo Aguilar. In the fifth inning Straight Up Builders added another run to their lead. In the sixth and final inning, Catalina Express scored a run off the double from Nestor Cubillas, but fell short with the final score – Straight Up Builders 11, Catalina Express 9.

For Catalina Express Leo Aguilar was two for two. Joe Hernandez and Maria Reyes also had two hits. Nestor Cubillas, Allen Casillas, Tyler Engel, Reed Woodyard, Santiago Martinez and Mario Jimenez all contributed one hit.

For Straight Up Builders, Daniel Paradisi was three for three. Gabriel Alvarado and Alex Romero were two for two. Jose Cuevas, Manny Hernandez and Selina Morones also had two hits. Bart Glass and Elias Romero contributed one hit.

The second game of the evening was between Coyote Joe’s and Eric’s on the Pier. Coyote Joe’s opened the game with two runs. Eric’s on the Pier evened it up in the second. Coyote Joe’s added three more in the third with doubles from J.D. Laflin and Ryan Hinkley. Brandon Franco hit a double and scored in the bottom of the inning for Eric’s on the Pier.

Coyote Joe’s added to their lead with five more runs in the fourth. J.D. Laflin had a two-run home run in the inning. In the bottom of the inning Robert Reyes hit an RBI triple, and later scored for Eric’s on the Pier. Coyote Joe’s kept the pressure on in the fifth with a two-run double from Francisco Bravo, who then scored on the sacrifice fly ball.

In the fifth and final inning Ryan Hinkley drove home two more runs off his triple for Coyote Joe’s. Eric’s On the Pier rallied for a run, off the Robert Reyes double, but failed to score any more. The game ended with the score – Coyote Joe’s 15, Eric’s on the Pier 6.

For Eric’s on the Pier, Robert Reyes had three hits. Javier Jimenez and Edmundo Vega had two hits. Brandon Franco, Kyle Ostentoski and Christy Alegria-Flynn had one hit.

For Coyote Joe’s, Ryan Hinkley was four for four. Kenton Efhan was three for three. J.D. Laflin, Sean Sterling, Francisco Bravo and Ron Bevins had two hits. Juan De La Cruz and Amanda Younger contributed one hit.
