The Catalina CoEd Softball League returned to the diamond for the Fall Season. The first game was between Leave it to Leo Handyman and Straight Up Builders.
Three base hits and a fielder’s choice added up to a run for Leave it to Leo Handyman. Straight Up Builders answered with a base hit that turned into a run off errors. Leave it to Leo Handyman broke the tie in the third inning when Jack Villagomez hit a solo home run, followed by three base hits for a second run in the inning.
Straight Up Builders got a run in the bottom of the fourth off the RBI double from Julio Chavoya. Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning. Leave it to Leo Handyman added another run off two base hits and an error in the top of the seventh to increase their lead by two runs.
Straight Up Builders got their last at bat. A walk and a base hit were followed by a sacrifice fly ball to bring home one run. Chuy Sillas hit an RBI double to tie the game. During a play to first for the second out, Chuy Sillas beat the throw home for the walk off win. Final score Leave it to Leo Handyman 5, Straight Up Builders 6.
For Leave it to Leo Handyman Jack Villagomez was three for three. Stephanie Martinez also collected three hits. Marco Gallegos, Luis Lazaro, Leo Aguilar, Santiago Martinez, Daniel Madriz and Ivan Garcia all collected one hit.
For Straight Up Builders, Arthur Kelly was two for two. Chuy Sillas, Juan Hernandez, Brandon Franco, Uriel Castillo, Sergio Vallejo, Julio Chavoya, Jesus Rodriguez, Rachel Mc Cormick and Tiffany Credel all had one hit.
Game two featured Buoys and Gulls taking on Sunset Bar & Grill. Sunset Bar & Grill opened the bottom of the first inning with hot bats. A base hit, an error, a double from Nestor Cubillas, a triple from Ryan Adkins and a home run from Tyler Engel brought home five runs.
In the bottom of the second, Sunset Bar and Grill added three more runs off four base hits and a double from Rafa Silva. Buoys and Gulls got on the board in the third with two runs off three base hits.
In the fourth inning Alex Reyes opened with a double. On the subsequent play, Tyler Engel turned an error into an out when he recovered and threw the ball home to get the first out of the inning. A sacrifice fly ball brought home the only run for Buoys & Gulls that inning. In the bottom of the sixth Sunset Bar & Grill added an insurance run off three base hits.
Buoys and Gulls got their last at bat, but failed to get any runners on. Final score Buoys and Gulls 3, Sunset Bar and Grill 9.
For Buoys & Gulls Jaime Alaniz and Brayan Aguilar were two for two. Julian Tejeda, Chris Arnold, Hugh Bevins, Alex Reyes and Taryn Minuto all collected one hit.
For Sunset Bar and Grill Gabriel Alvarado, Caitlin Lopez and Missy Schafer had two hits. Joe Hernandez, Nestor Cubillas, Rynn Adkins. Tyler Engel, Francisco Bravo, Jesus Ledesma, Rafa Silva, and Felipe Gonzalez collected one hit.
