In the first game of the night of the Catalina Co Ed Softball League Buoys & Gulls took on Bravo’s Landscaping. Buoys & Gulls was up first, and scored two runs off two base hits, a double from J.D. Laflin and a triple from Julian Tejeda.
Buoys & Gulls scored two more in the second off an error, two base hits, and another double from J.D. Laflin. Ryan Adkins hit a double for Buoys & Gulls in the third, but was left stranded at third.
In the bottom of the inning Bravo’s Landscaping got on the board with a run, off three base hits. Buoys & Gulls got that run back in the fourth off two base hits. Buoys & Gulls’ Ryan Adkins opened the sixth inning with an inside-the-park home run. Two base hits scored another run.
In the bottom of the inning Jose Octavo opened with a double. Julian Tejeda had an amazing stop at short, with a great dig from Ron Bevins at first to record the final out of the inning. No runs were scored by either team in the seventh inning. The game ended with the score Bravo’s Landscaping 1, Buoys & Gulls 7.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Leo Aguilar and Gustavo Aguilar were two for two. Jose Octavo, Luis Lazaro and Santiago Martinez had one hit.
For Buoys & Gulls Ryan Adkins was three for three. Missy Schafer also had three hits. Ron Bevins and J.D. Laflin had two hits, while Julian Tejeda, Uriel Castillo, Hugh Bevins, Jack Villagomez and Caitlin Lopez collected one hit.
Straight Up Builders took on Sunset Bar & Grill in the second game of the night. Juan Hernandez opened the game for Straight Up Builders with a double, but was left at third base. Sunset Bar & Grill used three base hits, two errors, doubles from Gustavo Gutierrez and Rafa Silva, along with a three-run home run from Gilbert Hernandez to score eight in the bottom of the first.
Straight Up Builders got on the board in the second with two runs off four base hits. Sunset Bar & Grill answered with four runs off two walks, an error, a base hit, and a double from Gilbert Hernandez. Matilda Martinez made the running catch behind the plate for Straight Up Builders.
In the fourth inning Straight Up Builders Brandon Franco hit a two RBI home run. Jim Hinkley opened the fifth inning with an inside-the-park home run for Straight Up Builders. A walk, an error and a base hit brought home the second run of the inning. Sunset Bar & Grill used a walk, three base hits and doubles from Phil Lopez and Gilbert Hernandez to put four more runs on the board in the bottom of the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Gustavo Gutierrez hit a double and scored on the base hit for Sunset Bar & Grill. Time ran out during the bottom of the inning, so the game ended with the score Straight Up Builders 6, Sunset Bar & Grill 17.
For Straight Up Builders Jim Hinkley was two for two. With one hit each were Juan Hernandez, Juan De La Cruz, Brandon Franco, Billy Boyd, Bart Glass, Matilda Martinez and Maddie Hiniker.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Joe Hernandez and Gilbert Hernandez were three for three. Francisco Bravo, Jose Barreras and Rafa Silva collected two hits. Phil Lopez and Alexandra Tran contributed one hit.
