Buoys & Gulls clinches league title

The feeling of Fall was in the air this past Thursday night for Catalina CoEd Softball. Game one saw Sunset Bar & Grill taking on Bravo’s Landscaping. Sunset Bar & Grill was up first and promptly scored five runs off four base hits, a walk, and a double from Jose Barreras.

Bravo’s Landscaping answered with seven runs off three errors, five base hits and a double from Jose Octavo. Bravo’s Landscaping added another run in the bottom of the second. Sunset Bar & Grill tied it up in the third with the two-run home run from Tyler Engel, followed by a run off two errors.

Bravo’s Landscaping edged ahead in the bottom of the inning with a run, off two base hits. In the fourth inning Sunset Bar & Grill’s Gilbert Hernandez hit a double but was left stranded. Bravo’s Landscaping added to their lead in the bottom of the inning when three base hits, a sacrifice flyball, a double from Marco Gallegos and a triple from Renton Minuto brought home three more runs.

Top of five and Alexandra Tran led it off for Sunset Bar & Grill with a double. Tyler Engel followed with his second two RBI home run of the night. Francisco Bravo hit a triple and later scored on an error. Gustavo Aguilar made the highlight reel with his great catch in right center to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning a base hit for Bravo’s Landscaping was erased with the double play that followed. Another base hit and an error had two on base for the inside-the-park home run from Marco Gallegos which scored three. Time ran out, and the game ended with the score Sunset Bar & Grill 11, Bravo’s Landscaping 15.

For Sunset Bar & Grill Alexandra Tran collected four hits. Gilbert Hernandez, Tyler Engel and Francisco Bravo contributed two hits. Gabriel Alvarado, Jose Barreras and Edmundo Vega had one hit.

For Bravo’s Landscaping Rachel McCormick pounded out six hits. Jose Octavo contributed three hits. Marco Gallegos, Renton Minuto, Santiago Martinez and Gustavo Aguilar collected two hits. Luis Lazaro had one hit.

Buoys & Gulls faced off against Straight Up Builders in game two. Buoys & Gulls used two base hits and doubles from Julian Tejeda and Ryan Adkins to score three in the first inning.

Straight Up Builders answered with five base hits, two fielder’s choice, a sacrifice flyball and doubles from Julio Chavoya and Matilda Martinez to have seven cross the plate. Buoys & Gulls narrowed the gap in the second when a walk, a base hit and doubles from J.D. Laflin and MIssy Schafer brought home two runs.

Buoys & Gulls took the lead in the third when five runs came home off an error, two walks, and three base hits. Straight Up Builders stayed close with a run in the bottom of the inning. Buoys & Gulls added to their lead in the fourth with two more runs off two base hits and doubles from Ryan Adkins and Jack Villagomez.

Buoys & Gulls put another run on the board in the fifth. Jack VIllagomez hit a double followed by two base hits for Buoys & Gulls to have two more cross the plate in the sixth. With time expired Straight Up Builders got their last at bat. A double play was followed by a base hit. Brandon Franco hit a double, but the great relay from left center to shortstop to home cut down the runner trying to score for the final out. Final score Straight Up Builders 8, Buoys & Gulls 15. Congratulations to Buoys & Gulls for clinching the League Title!

For Straight Up Builders Matilda Martinez had three hits. Brandon Franco and Chris Arnold collected two hits. Chuy Sillas, Juan Da Lar Cruz, Julio Chavoya and Eliu Soul had one hit.

For Buoys & Gulls Jack Villagomez was four for four. Missy Schafer also had four hits. Ryan Adkins and Uriel Castillo contributed three hits. J.D. Laflin, Julian Tejeda and Paul Daniel Romo collected two hits. Ron Bevins had one hit.
