
The final game of the second round of league play for Catalina CoEd Softball featured two great games. Game one was between Bravo’s Landscaping and Buoys & Gulls. Bravo’s Landscaping was up first and Marco Gallegos opened the game with a home run. Three base hits and a three-run home run from Leo Aguilar followed. A total of five runs came home.
Buoys & Gulls answered back with back-to-back home runs from Jack VIllagomez and Ryan Adkins. Three base hits and an error added three more runs, for a total of five.
Bravo’s Landscaping edged ahead in the third with a run, off a double from Robert Reyes and a triple from Sebastian Sanchez. Buoys & Gulls took the lead in the bottom of the inning with three base hits, an error and a three-run home run from Ryan Adkins.
The lead switched back to Bravo’s Landscaping in the fifth inning. They used a base hit, doubles from Robert Reyes and Leo Aguilar, and a three-RBI home run from Sebastian Sanchez to score a total of four. Buoys & Gulls kept it close with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Marco Gallegos hit a double for Bravo’s Landscaping in the top of the seventh, but was left stranded at third. Down by one in the final inning Buoys & Gulls got their last at bat. A double play ended the game with the score Buoys & Gulls 9, Bravo’s Landscaping 10.
For Buoys & Gulls Ryan Adkins was three for three. Jack Villagomez, Briana Morones and Ben Guzman contributed two hits. Weston Leonhardi, Jose Octavo, J.D. Laflin, Jose Barreras and Rachel McCormick had one hit.
For Bravo’s Landscaping Robert Reyes collected three hits. Marco Gallegos, Sebastian Sanchez and Leo Aguilar had two hits. Luis Lazaro, Stephanie Martinez and Aimee Casillas contributed one hit.
Game two had Straight Up Builders taking on Sunset Bar & Grill. Sunset Bar & Grill came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning. They opened with back to back doubles from Tyler Engel and Gabriel Alvarado. A walk, two base hits and doubles from Phil Lopez and Omar Aguilar followed, with a total of eight crossing the plate.
Juan De La Cruz opened the second inning with a double for Straight Up Builders, but was left there. In the third inning Straight Up Builders tied it up rallying with six base hits and doubles from Brandon Franco and Juan De La Cruz to score eight.
Sunset Bar & Grill regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when a walk was followed by a double from Matilda Martinez. Heads up running from Tyler Engel not stopping at third beat the throw to home to break the tie.
Straight Up Builders left bases loaded in the fourth. Sunset Bar & Grill added to their lead in the fifth with four runs off two base hits, doubles from Sergio Vallejo and Elias Romero, and a triple from Caitlin Lopez. Straight Up Builders got a run back from the RBI double from Bart Glass in the sixth.
In the bottom of the inning Sunset Bar & Grill added two more runs off back to back doubles from Francisco Bravo and Juan Hernandez, followed by a base hit. Straight Up Builders got their last at bat in the seventh, but couldn’t get a runner on. The game ended with the score Straight Up Builders 9, Sunset Bar & Grill 15.
For Straight Up Builders Juan De La Cruz was three for three. Chuy Sillas, Nestor Cubillas, Bart Glass and Maddie Hiniker contributed two hits. Brandon Franco, Paul Daniel Romo, Selina Morones and Marisa Morones had one hit.
For Sunset Bar & Grill Tyler Engel, Juan Hernandez, Phil Lopez, Gilbert Hernandez and Matilda Martinez collected two hits. With one hit each were Gabriel Alvarado, Carmelo Lazaro, Omar Aguilar, Sergio Vallejo, Elias Romero and Caitlin Lopez.
