The city manager will execute a letter of understanding with PERC Water Corporation to continue maintaining the city’s wastewater system for six months. The City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to authorize City Manager David Maistros to execute the agreement with an adjusted 3% CPI rate.
“On April 18, 2023, the City Council authorized the assignment of the remaining term of an agreement with Montrose Water and Sustainability Services, Inc. (Montrose) to PERC Water Corporation for the operation, management, maintenance, and monitoring of the City of Avalon’s Wastewater System,” wrote Public Works Director Jackeline Cordero.
“During PERC Water’s contract tenure, they have demonstrated exceptional performance and consistency in service delivery, meeting all compliance standards, and operational benchmarks,” Cordero wrote.
“Satisfied with the operational and management provided by PERC Water, City Staff began negotiating an additional three year term in the first half of 2024. The current agreement to provide operations and maintenance services of the WWTP expires on December 15, 2024,” Cordero wrote.
City staff recommended the council authorize Maistros to execute a letter of understanding to extend the agreement for another six months.
City Manager David Maistros, apparently speaking off the top of his head, told the council the cost of the contract was for 1.4 million, “in that neighborhood”.
Cordero said the company had been “really wonderful to work with.”
