The above table was updated on Jan. 17 and reflects Catalina’s Part 1 crime statistics from January to December 2020, compred to 2019. Part 1 crimes are so-called “serious” crimes. Crime statistics are subject to change based on new informaiton about ongoing investigations. The numbers are also based on those crimes reported to or discovered by law enforcement. With the warnings out of the way, it appears that there was a 37.50% decrease in aggravated assault. (That’s an assualt that could cause serious injury or death. Say if someone swings a hammer at your head, but misses, it’s still an aggravated assault because the hammer is a dangerous weapon.) There was a 12.50% decrease in burglary.
