Avalon seniors celebrate their graduation island style

When it became clear, or should I say unclear, what exactly the graduating seniors would be allowed to do this year to celebrate their graduation from Avalon High School, the Seniors and their Class Sponsors came up with the idea of doing some fun activities right here in our beautiful little town of Avalon.

With the cancelation of the Prom and Grad Night things were looking grim until the Hoefs family and the Island Company came to the rescue. The M Restaurant provided the venue for a wonderful Senior Dinner on Thursday, June 10, on their beautiful patio, giving the kids a choice of four entrees and a full four-course meal for a great price. Before arriving at the M for dinner the Seniors were treated to a wonderful coastal cruise on the Cyclone for another incredible price, thanks to Victor Leon and the Island Company. Then on Sunday, June 13, the class participated in a full day of fun activities, thanks to Island Company employees Andrew Wellman and Trish Martinez who set us up for a day of adventure. After celebrating Mass at the Catholic church in the morning the graduates were treated to a nice brunch in the church courtyard by their parents and parishioners.

After brunch the kids were off to the miniature golf course for a free round of golf, thanks again to the Island Company. Denise Silva and Nallely Pedroza were the champions of the tournament and received two Coney Island Passes for their outstanding performance. After golf the Seniors were off to the Aerial Course at Descanso Beach for a discounted price.

This was a challenging course that provided many thrills and laughs for those who participated and for those who watched. After the Aerial Course the Seniors were treated to a wonderful lunch, free of charge on Catherine’s Terrace overlooking Descanso Beach.

This fun day of activities turned out to be a great way to spend their class funds and enjoy the end of the year together as a class.

Kudos to the entire town for stepping up to the plate and providing so many great opportunities for our Seniors to have a memorable graduation, even during the most difficult of times and congratulations to the Class of 2021.

Good luck to each and every one of you in all your future endeavors.
