Avalon seeks a new director for the Public Works Department

Avalon is looking for a new Public Works director.
The deadline to apply for the job is Friday, July 7.
“The Public Works Department maintains the City’s public landscaping, parks, cemetery, and public buildings,” according to the job brochure on the city website.
Other responsibilities of the director listed in the brochure include implementing Avalon’s capital improvement program, maintaining the salt water system, city vehicles, floats, ramps, and harbor infrastructure.
“The current staff size is 17 including the Director and 3 additional Harbor Maintenance employees under the supervision of the Public Works Department,” according to the brochure.
“The Department operating and capital improvement budget is $20.8 million,” according to the brochure.
“The ideal candidate is a dynamic, strategic leader and effective communicator who possesses a high level of technical planning proficiency, has a collaborative approach to management, and enjoys working with a solid, knowledgeable staff in a team-oriented environment,” according to the brochure.
Not mentioned in the brochure is that the Public Works director will speak at City Council meetings.
“The salary range for Public Works Director is $134,031- $172,887,” according to the brochure. The brochure also describes the ideal candidate as someone who is, among other things, politically savvy, provides leadership, is a problem solver, had has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
