Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of April 15 to April 21, 2020. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
April 15
• An induvial alleged that an ex-girlfriend stole his dog and possibly left the island. Deputies conducted an investigation and the dog was located and returned to the owner. The investigation is ongoing.
April 16
• Deputies received a call of a domestic violence incident in the 300 block of Tremont Street. After conducting an investigation, deputies determined the two individuals were involved in an argument and no crimes had occurred.
April 17
• Deputies were called to Vons regarding a customer that did not have a mask on. Deputies contacted the customer, and got her a mask.
April 18
• Deputies received a call of a homeless male pan-handling in front of the Vons and causing a disturbance. The man left prior to the deputies’ arrival.
April 19
• Deputies were contacted by a victim who reported all four of his tires to his golf card had been punctured while his golf cart was parked in the 100 block of Metropole Avenue. Deputies are reviewing surveillance video.
April 20
• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Tremont Street regarding a domestic violence incident. Deputies again arrested Sandra Gutierrez from Avalon on suspicion of assault.
April 21
A victim reported someone stole his pickup truck near Bonita Way. The truck was located in the 700 block of Pebbly Beach Road and was returned to the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
Safety Note
You MUST wear a face covering: inside essential businesses (grocery stores, banks etc.), when around people not in your household, and at work when interacting with others. You do NOT need to wear one: in your car, backyard, or while taking a walk/run.
