The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period March 14 to March 20, 2024.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
March 14
- Deputies responded to Descanso Beach for a suspicious circumstance call. The informant stated there was a light on in one of the cabanas and someone might be inside. The deputies checked the cabana and discovered it was empty and the cabana light had been left on. Probably not a ghost tour worthy story.
- Deputies were contacted at the station by a man who stated his golf cart had been stolen during the night. A criminal report was written and the case is being investigated by detectives. The victim located and recovered his golf cart a short time after reporting it stolen.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance at the Botanical Gardens. The caller stated she was going out for a walk and noticed a man standing 40 yards away from her. The man was staring at the woman and she recognized him as the person she had a protective order against. The man was located and Suspect Adrian Meison, 22, of Avalon, was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order.
March 15
- Deputies responded to a theft report call on Metropole Ave. The caller stated an unknown suspect stole his brother’s war helmet and American flag from the porch. The stolen items were located in the street and returned to the victim. Detectives are investigating and attempting to locate video footage.
March 16
- Deputies on patrol contacted a suspicious person at Whittley Avenue and Country Club Drive. Suspect Luis Gutierrez, 36, of Avalon,was arrested based on an outstanding bench warrant for $50,000. The man was booked at Avalon Station and issued a citation to appear in court at a later date.
- A sergeant on patrol was monitoring traffic at Sumner and Beacon. He observed a driver fail to stop at the posted stop sign. The driver was cited for being unlicensed and failing to stop at the stop sign.
March 17
- Deputies responded to a loud music disturbance call at Step beach. The caller stated loud music was coming from the area and it was 11 p.m. The deputies located the party of 1 and told him to practice his DJ skills at a decent hour. The man took his boombox and went home.
March 18
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 100 block of Clarissa Avenue. The caller stated a man was yelling at people and hitting the building with his guitar. Based on the disturbing party’s description, the deputies knew who he was. They located the man a short time later and told him he could break his guitar but it was inappropriate to yell at people. The man was very remorseful and apologized for his behavior.
March 19
- A deputy on patrol saw a woman drinking a Buzz Ball at Beacon and Sumner. The woman was cited for drinking in public and agreed that was probably the most expensive drink she will ever have.
March 20
- Deputies responded to Sumner Avenue for a vehicle theft call. They contacted a woman who stated someone had stolen her car and she left the keys in the ignition. A short time later and short walk away, the woman located her car. The woman realized her vehicle had not been stolen, she just forgot where she parked it. There was no crime, only a little embarrassment and friendly joking with the woman.
