The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of May 11 to May 17, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
May 11
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call at a hotel room on Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a man and woman were arguing at the location. The deputies contacted the feuding couple and determined they were only arguing, and no crimes had been committed. The deputies urged the young couple to go outside and enjoy the beauty Catalina Island had to offer.
May 12
- A deputy and sergeant responded to a possible drunk female on Pebbly Beach Road. The caller stated a female was drunk and walking on the rocks near the ocean. They arrived and saw the woman sitting on the sidewalk in a blow-up pool float. The woman appeared to have really enjoyed her day trip to the island. While speaking with the woman, her friend arrived and said they were leaving on the next departing boat. The two women walked to the mole and left the island. The nice lady left her pool float for others to enjoy.
May 13
- Deputies responded to the Casino parking lot regarding a man who fell off a skateboard and hit his head. The deputies arrived and located a man wearing a tuxedo who stated he fell while riding his skateboard. The man refused any medical treatment and stated he was fine.
May 14
- Deputies responded to a possible assault on the 200 block of Crescent Avenue. The informant stated a man was stabbed during an altercation. The deputies arrived and conducted an investigation. They discovered a man had been stabbed one time on his right flank with a knife. The man was taken to Catalina Island Medical Center where he was treated. The deputies located and arrested Rocio Delgadillo Ventura, 29, of Portrero on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
May 15
- Deputies responded to Catalina Harbor regarding a possible abandoned vessel. The deputies contacted the mariner and warned him about his responsibilities as a vessel owner. He was very cooperative and promised to take care of his boat.
May 16
- Deputies were contacted by code enforcement regarding a man yelling at people on Sumner Avenue. The deputies contacted the man and recognized him from their daily encounters with him. The man was exercising his First Amendment rights and was not committing any crime. The man did agree to be quiet and not so disruptive.
May 17
- Deputies conducted foot patrol on Crescent Avenue due to a cruise ship being in town. There were no incidents to report.
