Locals hit milestone in run to Two Harbors and back
Recent storms made for a muddy course in the Catalina Island Marathon on Saturday, but that didn’t stop participants from tackling the grueling 26.2 mile course that ran from Avalon to Two Harbors and back. Trevor Pai, of Huntington Beach, was the top finisher with a time of three hours, 27 minutes and 33 seconds.
Paul Winfield, of Azusa, was second with a time of 3:48.52 and Justin Figueroa, of East Chicago, was third in 3:51.48. Among women, Katya Meyers, of Solana Beach, was the top finisher with a time of 4:06.45. Meyers was sixth overall on the course that reached an altitude of more than 1,500 feet. Erin McConkey, of La Jolla, was the second female with a time of 4:18.19 and Helen DeGennaro, of Denver, took third with a time of 4:29.28.
Efrain Moreno, of Avalon, was the top local finisher with a time of 4:44.41. Christian Silva, of Avalon was second local finisher in a time of 6:59.36. Shane Machado was the third Avalon finisher with a time of 7:07.50. Frank and Laura Minuto, along with Jorge Hernandez, completed the marathon to complete the islands’ Triple Crown. They have completed the 50k, marathon and half marathon.
In the 10K, Trent Hughes was the top Avalon resident finisher, with a time of 54 minutes, 41 seconds. He was the 26th overall finisher. Avalon resident Sadie Parsons was 48th overall and the 11th female finisher with a time of 59.08. She was 2nd in her age division. Other Avalon finishers included Avery Joharchi with a time of 1:09.57, Mara Saldana in 1:15.32 and Maria Dominguez with a time of 1:24.57.
Logan David, of Santa Monica, was the top 10K finisher with a time of 39.23. He was followed by Jacob Ellison of New York, with a time of 40.08. Christina Saffran, of San Diego was the top female finisher at 13th overall, in a time of 49.33. Katherine Krochina, also of San Diego was the second female finisher with a time of 50.22.
