10th Wild Side art festival goes virtual

The 10th annual Catalina: The Wild Side is fast approaching on Oct. 25 through Nov. 7 and this year the Catalina Island Conservancy will bring you an event that is completely virtual. Register today and reserve your exclusive access, which will feature more than 80 paintings by 10 nationally-renowned artists.

This year’s Catalina: The Wild Side brings you the quality that our featured artists display each year, with the convenience of a digital event. Now you can add new works to your collection, all from the comfort of home.

Featured Artist: Cindy Baron

A full-time artist recognized in both watercolors and oils, Cindy conducts workshops across the country and internationally, and has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design in their Continuing Education Department.

Her passion in the arts began with pastels, which then led to watercolors and, in 2000, Cindy was awarded signature status of The American Watercolor Society. In 2012, she became a signature member of Oil Painters of America, and is among a select group of artists that has received acknowledgment from her peers in both mediums. Most recently, Cindy was awarded LPAPA’s Award of Excellence at the 22nd annual Laguna Beach Plein Air Painting Invitational.

Featured Artist: John Cosby

John Cosby of California is a product of the American West. He is a signature member of the prestigious Plein Air Painters of America. He is also a founding board member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and a signature member of California Art Club. John is also a founder of the Laguna Beach Painting Invitational held in Laguna Beach each year. His work can be found in the collections of The Irvine Museum, Big Canyon Country Club, Laguna Art Museum and more.

Featured Artist: Colin Page

Before moving to Maine, Colin studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and at Cooper Union, receiving his bachelor of fine arts in 2000. He recently had solo shows at Courthouse Fine Art Gallery in Ellsworth, Maine; Debra Huse Gallery in Balboa Island; and Anglin Smith Fine Art in Charleston, South Carolina. He has also participated in numerous group shows internationally.

In 2015, Colin received an award for best use of color at the Laguna Plein Air Invitational and the Artist’s Choice Award at the 2015 Maynard Dixon Camp Out.

Featured Artist: Joe Paquet

Joe Paquet teaches and paints at Hurinenko and Paquet Studio in St. Paul, Minnesota. Joe has been featured in the Washington Post Sunday magazine, The Artist magazine, American Artist magazine and Plein Air magazine. His awards include both Artists’ Choice and Collectors’ Choice from the 2007 Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational, the 2008 Alden Bryan Memorial Prize from the Salmagundi Club of New York and the First Place in Landscape from the Richeson 75: Artist’s Choice Competition. Joe is an emeritus member of the Plein Air Painters of America, The Salmagundi Club and a signature member of the California Art Club.

Featured Artist: Ron Rencher

A Utah native, Ron started his early career painting Southern Utah landscapes, including five winters in and near Zion National Park, occasionally venturing to the Grand Canyon. At this time he was working exclusively in watercolor, though eventually began to focus on oil, a more complex and tactile medium.

Ron currently lives and works in his home studios in New Mexico, often traveling to paint on location and taking their works back to the studios for use as studies for larger paintings.

Featured Artist: John Budicin

Born in Rovigno, D’lstria, Italy, John moved to California at the age of 11, where he went to college, and continues to live today. John loves to paint directly from nature so he paints outdoors almost every day, oftentimes close to his home in San Bernardino.

John is not only a dedicated painter but also spends several weeks each year teaching workshops all around the US. John also taught a workshop in Umbria and Tuscany, Italy and written several articles for art publications.

Minnesota artist Andy Evansen can’t recall a time in his childhood when he wasn’t drawing. After pursuing a career as a medical illustrator, he longed for a return to fine art and began watercolor painting.

Andy’s work gained recognition after winning an international competition through American Artist magazine in 2005. He has since been featured in numerous other publications, won several awards and is a sought-after workshop instructor.

Featured Artist: Paul Kratter

San Francisco-born Paul Kratter earned degrees in Graphic Design as well as Illustration. After a career in advertising and later wildlife illustration, Kratter became interested in the immediacy and spontaneity of the plein air approach and started painting in the East Bay hills near his home.

Painting outdoors became a passion and he continues to participate in a number of plein air events annually in California.

Featured Artist: Kim Lordier

A native to the San Francisco Bay area and a graduate of San Francisco’s Academy of Art University, Kim Lordier combines keen observation and sensitivity to her award winning landscapes.

Her work has been showcased on the cover of Art of many art magazines and included in featured articles. Lordier is a Signature Member of the California Art Club, the Pastel Society of America, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and a Distinguished Pastelist of the Pastel Society of the West Coast.

Featured Artist: Michael Obermeyer

Michael Obermeyer is the vice president and a Signature Member of the prestigious California Art Club, and a Signature Member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA). He was presented with the LPAPA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015, in addition to a host of other notable awards and recognitions. Currently, his paintings are showing at galleries in Carmel, Sonoma, Claremont and Laguna Beach, where he is a regular exhibitor at the Festival of Arts. He maintains his studio in Laguna Beach.
