Edison donates to CHOICES

In an official ceremony Wednesday, a check representing a donation of $5,000 was handed over to CHOICES Director Rhonda Kalish by Southern California Edison’s Local Public Affairs Officer Ron Garcia Wednesday at the at SCE’s Pebbly Beach facility.

According to the group’s Treasurer Kristy Throndson, Edison first notified CHOICES (Citizens Helping Our Island Children End Substance Abuse) in December, but Wednesday’s action made it official.

According to the group’s Treasurer Kristy Throndson, Edison first notified CHOICES (Citizens Helping Our Island Children End Substance Abuse) in December, but Wednesday’s action made it official.

Tammy Tumbling, director of Philanthropy and Community Investment for SCE, the donation represents an effort “to remain a key partner to our nonprofit organizations.”  

She said that SCE is “committed to investing in programs such as (CHOICES) which aim to make the strongest impact, especially during economically challenged times.”

“We really appreciate Edison’s support,” said Kalish.  “If it wasn’t for the generosity of organization’s like Edison, groups like us couldn’t survive.”

According to Kalish, the funds will be used for everything from the group’s liability insurance, to mentoring groups, community education and for prevention programs in the school.  

“It goes towards all of that,” she said.

This was not the first time that Edison donated funds to the CHOICES drug-interdiction charity.
