Catalina Express Veteran retires after 25 years with company

Greg Bombard, president of Catalina Express, announced today that Duane Capp, director of passenger services, is retiring after a 25-year career at Catalina Express, effective Oct. 31.

Greg Bombard, president of Catalina Express, announced today that Duane Capp, director of passenger services, is retiring after a 25-year career at Catalina Express, effective Oct. 31.

Capp has been in the tourism business his entire professional career, including a stint at the Magic Mountain theme park, next at Catalina Cruises, and then joining Catalina Express in 1989 as manager of the Avalon office. He progressed to ticket manager and moved to the mainland office, then to director of passenger services, a title which he has held ever since, that includes overseeing up to 125 team members in the ticket office and call center.

Bombard says, “Duane has been in the cross channel transportation business longer than Catalina Express has been in existence and his knowledge and respect for the needs of the island and passengers have helped him lead his department and the company to unprecedented passenger satisfaction.”

Says Capp, “I have enjoyed the environment of a family-owned business and the staff I have worked with over the years. Catalina Express is a team oriented company that has ultimately led to higher productivity and offerings that address the needs of our passengers.”

Bombard says, “Duane’s research and expertise in electronics allow us to provide our employees and passengers with the tools we need to communicate most effectively, increasing our efficiency. Duane is called on to sit on every committee, from reservations software, ticket sales to the dock crew.”

Capp, who maintains a family home in Avalon, will move to Prescott, Arizona with his wife Catherine.
