Island residents and visitors will have a chance to tour five unique homes during the second annual Avalon Home Tour to be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016.  The Avalon Home Tour benefits the Catalina Island Medical Center Foundation, which raises funds for the island’s only hospital and supports the future of healthcare on Catalina.

This year’s tour will begin at the Catalina Island Yacht Club, with light refreshments served, prior to the homes opening their doors.  Two of the five homes featured this year are the recently built Hamilton Cove residences of the McKewon and Vickers families.  Ray and Kim McKewon’s home boasts over 5,600 square feet and features a 2,000 square foot underground entertainment area with a 2,100 bottle wine cellar.  Gerald and Sue Vickers’ home, located just next door and similar in size and stature, showcases a different island feel and will surely be a crowd pleaser.

Two homes on the terraces will also be included during this year’s tour.  Jim and Joyce Brown will be opening up their Upper Terrace home to the CIMC Foundation’s guests, and the Hambleton’s and the Hovard’s home on Middle Terrace will also be featured.  Both of these homes have been recently renovated and boast not only beautiful interiors but commanding views of the harbor and world famous Catalina Casino.

In contrast to the four new or newly remodeled homes is the fifth residence on the Avalon Home Tour.

Located at 334 Catalina Avenue, the “Vans Camp” home, as it is known, was built in 1925 in the Craftsman style and still hosts much of the custom Adirondack and Monterey furniture built for the home during that era, including swinging sofas that hang from the beamed ceiling in the great room.

Tickets can be purchased for only $60 and include transportation to the homes as well as the welcome reception at the Yacht Club.
