For the Islander
Co-Ed Softball started off the evening with Catalina Express taking on Straight Up Builders. Straight Up Builders took advantage of a shorthanded Catalina Express team, and pounded out nine base hits, doubles from Selina Morones, Chuy Silla and Gabriel Alvarado, along with an inside-the-park home run from Chuy Sillas and an error that turned into a bases clearing four runs for a total of fourteen runs crossing the plate.
Catalina Express got on the board in the second inning with four runs off three base hits, a double from Joe Hernandez and a triple from Allan Casillas. Striaght Up Builders got a run when Gabriel Alvarado hit a double and later scored. LeeAnn Little made a great catch behind the plate to end the inning. Catalina Express put two more on the board in the third.
Straight Up Builders widened the gap with six runs off four base hits, a double from Daniel Paradisi, a triple from Alex Romero, and an inside-the-park home run from Jose Cuevas.
Catalina Express got two more in the third off back-to-back home runs from Allan Casillas and Mario Jimenez. Daniel Paradisi made a great double catch to end the inning. Straight Up Builders put up two more in the bottom of the fifth inning off three base hits.
Catalina Express got their last at bat, and had back-to-back doubles from Joe Hernandez and Allan Casillas. With one out, Mario Jimenez collected two RBIs off his home run. Tyler Engel collected an RBI off his double. With a runner on, Stephen March hit an inside-the-park home run to collect two RBIs. With time expired, the game ended with the score Catalina Express 13, Straight Up Builders 23.
For Catalina Express, Joe Hernandez, Allan Casillas and Stephen Marcy collected three hits. Mario Jimenez, Tyler Engel, Stephanie Martinez and LeeAnn Little had two hits. Reed Woodyard collected one hit.
For Straight Up Builders, Chuy Sillas was four for four. Briana Morones also collected four hits. Jose Cuevas, Daniel Paradisi, and Selina Morones contributed three hits. Manny Hernnadez, Bart Glass, Gabriel Alvarado, Elias Romero, Alex Romero and Leah Quarnstom had two hits.
Game two was between Coyote Joe’s and Eric’s on the Pier. Coyote Joe’s was up first, and banged home three runs on four base hits and a double from J.D. Laflin. Eric’s on the Pier answered back with a home run from Robert Reyes. Three base hits and a walk later and one more run came home.
Eric’s on the Pier tied it up in the second with a run scored on back to back doubles from Robert Reyes and Brandon Franco. Coyote Joe’s J.D. Laflin opened the third inning with a solo home run. Four base hits and another run crossed the plate. Eric’s on the Pier kept pace with a double from Joe Talsky and inside-the-park two RBI home run from Kyle Ostrenski.
Eric’s on the Pier took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Robert Reyes hit a triple and scored on the home run from Brandon Franco. Joe Talsky and Javier Jimenez had back-to-back doubles. Javier later scored on a ground out.
Eric’s on the Pier put up three more runs in the fifth. Robert Reyes had his second triple of the night followed by an inside-the-park home run from Brandon Franco. Three base hits brought home the third run of the inning. Eric’s on the Pier kept the pressure on with a double from Edmundo Vega followed by his third triple from Robert Reyes, and a third home run from Brando Franco. With their last at bat, Coyote Joes left a runner stranded at third. The game ended with the score Coyote Joe’s 5, Eric’s on the Pier 15.
For Coyote Joes, J.D. Laflin, Francisco Bravo and Kenton Efhan had two hits. Sean Sterling, Juan De La Cruz, Hugh Bevins, Ron Bevins, Laura Priest and Jennifer Williams had one hit.
For Eric’s on the Pier, Robert Reyes was five for five. Joe TAlsky was four for four. Brandon franco also had four hits. Javier Jimenez had three hits. Kyle Ostreski, Edmundo Vega, and the solo girl on the team this night, Marisol Perez had one hit.
