Sheriff’s Significant Incident Report: April 17 to April 22

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of April 10 to April 16. “It is important to note that no assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided in this report.  Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested,” said Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

April 17

April 17

A small quantity of Marijuana was found in the 100 block of Crescent Avenue and turned into the Sheriff’s Station.

April 18

• Jessica Camp, F/39, an Avalon resident, was arrested for Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Public Place.  

• A Residential Burglary was reported in the 300 block of Sumner Avenue while the home owners were on the mainland.

• Deputies returned stolen clothing to the manager at Catalina Shirt and Shade.  Detectives tracked the suspects to a home in Long Beach, where Robert Sally, M/50 was arrested and the stolen property was recovered.

April 19

• Christian Murillo, M/22, an Avalon resident, was arrested for Battery and Drunk in Public.

• Deputies served a search warrant at 323 Sumner Avenue #B in Avalon where they arrested Matt Garcia, M/22, an Avalon resident, for a weapons violation and for being Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance.  They also arrested Nicholas Saldana, M/23, an Avalon resident, for Burglary.

• A downed power line caused a small grass fire in the interior of the island. A resident deputy extinguished the fire prior to the arrival of the Fire Department. He was commended for his actions.

• Kirk Williams, M/52, an Avalon resident, was arrested for Possession for Sale of a Controlled Substance.

April 20– Deputies issued citations to two adult residents of Avalon and recovered approximately one-half ounce of Marijuana.

• A Residential Burglary was reported in the 300 block of Metropole Avenue. Deputies located the 12-year-old Avalon resident, who committed the crime.  

April 21

Baywatch Isthmus Lifeguards and a resident deputy alerted the Fire Department to a series of burn sites in the Interior of the Island. The deputy detained a person of interest believed to be responsible for the small fires and the criminal investigation is on-going.  

April 22

• A Vandalism report was taken for damage to City property in the 300 block of Tremont Avenue.

• An Avalon resident reported that a package was taken from the doorstep of her residence in the 300 block of Sunny Lane.

Reported golf cart thefts (week ended April 22)

• Note: Two golf carts were reported stolen this week.  One was recovered in the parking lot at the Canyon Resort and Spa and the other was moved 100 yards down the street, by person(s) unknown, as it had been parked on Crescent Avenue.
