The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
September 28
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. The caller stated there were 4 people getting ready to fight in front of location. The deputies arrived and separated the combatants. The disturbing parties were counseled and escorted to their hotels.
- A sergeant on patrol observed a vehicle driving on Pebbly Beach Road playing loud music. A traffic enforcement stop was conducted, and the driver was issued a citation for being unlicensed and playing loud music from his vehicle.
September 29
- A deputy was flagged down by a citizen who observed a man trespassing in the Catholic Church rear parking lot. The deputy contacted the man and recognized him from prior arrests. The man was cooperative and left the location while the deputy was present.
September 30
- Deputies responded to South Beach regarding a peaceful protest. The caller stated approximately 75-100 people were protesting at the location. The deputies contacted the parties and advised them the Sheriff’s Department was available if they were needed.
September 30
- Deputies responded to the 300 block of Clemente Avenue regarding a vehicle blocking a driveway. The vehicle was issued a parking citation.
- Deputies responded to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a fight call. The deputies arrived and determined no physical altercation had occurred. The parties were arguing with each other and left once the deputies counseled them.
October 1
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Tremont Street. The caller stated 6-7 juvies were trying to start a fight. The deputies contacted the young men and told them there were better ways to handle conflict. The young lads all agreed and left the area.
- Deputies responded to a business disturbance on Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a male adult was drunk and walked out of the location without paying his bill. The deputies contacted the man and asked him to return and settle his debt. The man appeared to be extremely drunk and became combative with the deputies. Joshua Haggerty, 44, of Arizona, arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public, defrauding an innkeeper and resisting arrest.
October 3
- Deputies responded to the 700 block of Crescent Avenue regarding a traffic hazard. The caller stated numerous people were sitting and standing in the traffic circle creating a safety hazard for drivers. The deputies contacted the crowd and advised them they were standing on a roadway and could possibly be struck by vehicles trying to drive by.
