The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Oct. 26 to 31, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted,
October 26
- Deputies responded to a fight call on the 100 block of Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a crowd of people were fighting on the street. Upon arrival, the deputies were unable to locate combatants. It appears this was a hit and run.
October 27
- A man came into the station lobby to file a report of an assault. Deputy Montoya conducted an investigation and was able to locate video footage of the crime. The suspect in the case is already in custody on pending charges. He will now be additionally charged for assault with a deadly weapon.
- A sergeant responded to a disturbance call at the Botanical Gardens. The caller stated a man with no shirt was accusing her of taking his cellphone. The sergeant arrived and determined no theft had occurred; however the man was appeared to be intoxicated and unable to care for himself. Eleven McNally, 25, Avalon was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
October 28
- A deputy and a sergeant responded to a business disturbance on the 600 block of Crescent. The caller stated a customer was refusing to pay for a parking ticket he received on his rental golf cart. The man showed the deputy pictures of where he parked the vehicle and believed he was in the right. The deputy politely explained to the man he was illegally parked and could contest the ticket at a later date.
October 29
- Deputies responded to Hermit Gulch for a suspicious person call. The caller stated a man was going through food lockers at the campground. The deputies contacted the hungry man and advised him his actions could be considered a crime. The man was apologetic and left the location.
October 30
- Deputies responded to a disturbance involving a man and a woman on Metropole Avenue. The caller stated a woman was crying because her boyfriend would not let her into the room to retrieve her property. The deputies assisted the feuding couple and were able to convince the man to let his girlfriend inside the room. The woman retrieved her property and stayed at another hotel.
October 31
- Deputies responded to a suspicious person call on Sumner Avenue. The caller stated a man was wearing a fireman’s jacket, carrying a full-size machete and walking the streets. The deputies located the man and could see he had changed his outfit and was no longer carrying the machete.
