Sheriff’s Log: Oct. 24 to Oct. 30, 2024

The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Oct. 24 to Oct. 30, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

October 24

  • Deputies responded to the school for a disturbance call. The caller stated students were throwing water bottles and harassing teachers. The deputies contacted school administrators who were addressing the problem. There was no evidence of any criminal activity.
  • Deputies responded to traffic collision on Metropole Avenue. The caller stated her 10 year old son was riding his bike and was struck by a golf cart. The accident is being investigated by Detective Meyers who is reviewing video surveillance footage of the incident.

October 25

  • A sergeant on patrol saw numerous juveniles standing on Sumner Avenue after curfew. He detained the young men and issued them citations for violating curfew. The parents were notified of the curfew times and had to pick up their kids at the scene.
  • A deputy on patrol contacted a man for an outstanding vandalism warrant. The man was issued a citation to appear in court at a later date.
  • Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Sumner Avenue. The deputies contacted a woman who appeared intoxicated and continually argued with them. They detained her pending a drunk in public investigation. Angelica Cruz, 42, of Corona, was arrested and booked at Avalon Station on suspicion of being drunk in public.

October 26

  • A sergeant on patrol saw a juvenile on an E-Bike fail to stop at the stop sign on Banning Drive. He issued him a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign and having an unregistered vehicle.
  • Deputies responded to Crescent Avenue and Metropole Avenue for a possible domestic disturbance. The caller stated a man and woman were arguing with each other. The deputies arrived and located a woman sitting on a bench crying. The woman said she was arguing with her boyfriend and he left her. The woman’s speech was slurred and she was unable to stand up on her own. Violete Eshom, 48, of South Pasadena, was arrested and booked at Avalon Station on suspicion of being drunk in public.

October 27

  • Deputies responded to a business disturbance on Sumner Avenue. The caller stated a woman was outside banging on the doors and she was not allowed inside the location. They contacted the woman who stated she was assaulted by staff at the business. The case is under investigation.
  • A sergeant on patrol saw an E-Bike fail to stop at the stop sign on Beacon and Sumner. The driver was issued a citation for failing to stop at a posted stop sign and driving an unregistered bike.

October 28

  • Deputies on patrol at Two Harbors contacted a man during a disturbance call at the restaurant. The man was arguing with staff and told them to call the sheriffs. They did as he asked and the deputies arrived promptly. During the investigation they determined the man had a $25k arrest warrant for DUI. Based on the warrant, William Vogel, 35, of Huntington Park, was arrested and released on a notice to appear.

October 29

Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Clarissa Avenue. The caller stated several juveniles were racing up and down the street. The caller stated this is an on-going problem and the kids hide when the deputies arrive. The deputies were unable to locate any E-Bikes but rest assured, they will become more creative and covert when enforcing E-Bike laws

Deputies responded to a silent alarm at the bank. Upon arrival, they determined it was an accidental activation and everyone was safe.
