The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Oct. 18 to Oct. 25, 2023.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted

October 19

  • Deputies responded to the 600 block of Crescent Avenue regarding a business disturbance. The caller stated a female adult was at the counter yelling at employees. The deputies contacted the employee and the customer and determined the customer was upset because the employee properly secured her child into the car seat. The customer was advised the same California Vehicle Code sections apply to golf carts just like full size vehicles Overtown. There was no evidence of any wrongdoing, and the employee was only ensuring the safety of the child passenger.

Oct. 20

  • A woman came into the Sheriff’s Station lobby requesting deputies conduct a welfare check of her 13-month-old daughter. The deputies located the baby who was legally with her father and was well taken care of.
  • Deputies and the sergeant conducted traffic and crowd control for the procession of Our Lady of Guadalupe. There were approximately 300 people in attendance from the Green Pleasure pier to the Catholic Church.

Oct. 21

  • Deputies responded to the Casino for a disturbance call. The deputies arrived and determined 2 guests watching Jazz Trax got into a disagreement over taking pictures and encroaching on their seats. The parties were counseled and assigned new seats to avoid any further contact. The parties were told they were not the only guests and they were disturbing others who were trying to enjoy the show.
  • Deputies responded to a restaurant on the 400 block of Crescent Avenue regarding a disturbance. The caller stated 2 women left the location and refused to pay their bill. The deputies contacted the women who said they were flirting with a man inside the restaurant who told them he would cover their bill. However, the man left the location, leaving the flirtatious women to pay their own tab. The women were upset they got played but they ultimately paid.

Oct. 22

  • Deputies responded to the 100 block of Clarissa Avenue regarding a disturbance call. The informant stated a male adult keeps threatening him and stole his bicycle. The man was identified and the case is being investigated.

Oct. 23

  • Deputies responded back to the 100 block of Clarissa Avenue to conduct a photo lineup of the suspect who had been threatening him. The man positively identified the suspect and deputies are actively looking for him.

Oct. 24

  • Deputies on patrol located a man wanted on suspicion of 4 Criminal Threats and Intimidating a witness charges. Marcos Rodriguez, 30, of Avalon, was arrested and booked at Avalon Station for 422PC and 136PC.
  • Deputies responded to a hotel on Crescent Avenue regarding possible missing items. They spoke to a guest who stated she was assigned a different room and left some of her items behind in her original room. The items were located by hotel staff 2 days later and returned to the guest. The woman was not missing any of her items and they were all returned to her. The woman was rude to the deputy and wanted a theft report taken. The deputies asked the woman what crime had occurred if she was the one who left the items in the room. They also asked her what crime occurred if the hotel located and returned all her property. The woman did not like the deputies common sense approach and stormed off. A short time later, the rude woman’s friend contacted the deputies and apologized for her behavior.
