The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Nov. 9 to Nov. 15, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted,
November 9
- Deputies responded to the library for a suspicious person call. The caller stated a male adult was in front of library carving and using a large knife. The deputies contacted the wannabe Geppetto and asked him to take woodworking skills away from the library. The man left the location and said he would complete his project elsewhere.
November 10
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on Crescent Avenue at 2 a.m. The caller stated he had a problem with a man whom he believes took his vehicle. The deputies contacted the man and determined there was no theft or auto tampering. They did however determine the man had a bit too much to drink and was intoxicated. The man had no one to care for him and Shaun Brown, 40, Shell Beach, was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public.
November 11
- Deputies responded to an assault call that occurred on Sumner Avenue. They located the victim and saw he was bleeding profusely from a wound on his face. The was man transported to the hospital and treated. The man knew the suspect and provided deputies with his name and description. The deputies located the suspect and placed Marcos Pedroza, 34, of Avalon, under arrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The man was booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station. The following day, detectives were able to locate video surveillance footage of the incident. The case has been submitted to the District Attorney.
November 12
- Deputies conducted numerous patrol checks on foot and in their vehicles at hermit Gulch due to an increase in thefts.
November 14
- Deputies responded to an assault call on Catalina Avenue. The caller stated a man entered the location, went to the rear of the restaurant, and took food and beer. The man then walked out the rear door where he was contacted by employees. The employees told the man to bring back the items and that he was stealing. The man pushed the employee, causing him to fall to the ground and injure his knee. The suspect left the location and was located by deputies approximately 1 hour later. Luis Gutierrez, 36, Avalon, was arrested on suspicion of robbery (strongarm) and booked at Avalon Station.
