The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of Nov. 7 to Nov. 13, 2024. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
November 8
- Deputies responded to a suspicious person call on Pebbly Beach Road. The deputies contacted two men and advised them trespassing was a crime and it would be strictly enforced on the island. The men were urged to head back Overtown so they would not be tempted to make any poor decisions. They agreed it was time to leave.
- Deputies responded to speeding vehicle call on Clarissa Ave. The caller stated older males were racing up and down the street on E-Bikes. The deputies executed a covert deployment in order to identify and cite the speed racers. Once they arrived, the street was desolate, and the E-Bikes were in the wind.
- A sergeant on patrol observed a juvy riding an E-Bike on Banning Drive. He conducted a traffic enforcement stop and cited the driver for driving an unregistered vehicle and driving without a driver’s license.
November 9
- Deputies responded to the Isthmus Gate for a suspicious person call. The informant stated a man was bow hunting out of season. The deputies checked the area and were unable to locate the alleged deer hunter.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call at a hotel on Metropole Ave. The caller stated a man and woman were arguing inside a hotel room. The deputies arrived, knocked on the door and spoke to a man and woman who were inside. The woman stated her boyfriend had been drinking and grabbed her by the hair causing pain to her head. Everett Gotfredson, 46, of Los Angeles,was arrested for alleged spousal battery and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
November 10
- A woman came to the Sheriff’s Station and said another woman pulled her hair and chased her in a golf cart. The woman said it was an On-Going local problem and she did not want to press charges. The deputy explained the process of obtaining a restraining order and asked the woman if she needed any medical attention. She said she was fine and left the station.
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call at the same hotel on Metropole Ave. The caller stated a man and woman were arguing and a female could be heard screaming. The deputies arrived at the hotel room and contacted the occupants. They recognized them as the same couple they encountered the night before regarding a spousal battery.
The deputies interviewed the man and woman and learned they were arguing because the man was texting his ex-girlfriend and got caught slipping. The woman confronted her boyfriend and alleged scratched him on his forehead. The deputies saw 3 fresh scratches on the man’s forehead and arrested Jessica Ostman, 30, of Los Angeles, for alleged spousal battery. The suspect was booked at Avalon Station.
- A sergeant on patrol saw 4 juveniles out past curfew at Crescent and Metropole. He detained them and issued them citations for the curfew ordinance.
November 12
- Deputies responded to a fight on Sumner Avenue. The caller stated two males were fighting on the ground. The deputies located two men in the middle of the street and it appeared one of the men was injured.
The man was treated by the fire department and the case is under investigation by Detective Meyers.
