Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, 2019. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
November 27
• Deputies responded to the San Diego Yacht Club regarding a trespassing call. Deputies wrote a crime report, due to someone illegally entering some of the buildings on the property. No trespassers were found on the property. Deputies conducted additional checks of the property for the next couple of days and no trespassers were located.
• Deputies arrested Charlie Carrasco from Avalon on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine, being under the influence of a controlled substance and possessing narcotic paraphernalia. The arrest occurred in the 200 block of Sumner Avenue.
November 28
• Happy Thanksgiving, no noteworthy incidents.
November 29
• Deputies arrested Kelvin Sanchez from Avalon on suspicion of stealing a golf cart, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving without a license. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Crescent Avenue.
November 30
• Deputies responded to the backside of Catalina Island near Cat. Harbor with L.A. County Baywatch/Isthmus, L.A. County Fire Department/Aero Unit, Harbor Patrol/Isthmus, and a Conservancy ranger, regarding a 43-foot powerboat that went ashore with six people on it. All six were rescued. Two had minor injuries. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
• Deputies arrested a juvenile for driving a vehicle without a license on Pebbly Beach Road. The juvenile was released to a parent.
December 1
• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Descanso Avenue regarding a domestic violence call. The disturbing party had left the location prior to the deputies’ arrival.
December 2
• Deputies responded to the 1000 block of Avalon Canyon Road regarding a stolen scooter. A 15-year-old left his scooter at Joe Machado Field while he went to practice. When he returned, the scooter was missing. The investigation is ongoing.
December 3
• A motorist was traveling on Pebbly Beach Road at approximately 20 mph when he accidently hit a wild deer that was on the road. The motorist did not suffer any injuries but the deer succumbed to its injuries.
