The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the period of May 26 to June 1, 2022.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
May 26
• Deputies responded to a loud music disturbance on the 100 block of Metropole Avenue. The caller stated there was a loud party in the hotel room.
Deputies contacted the partygoers who apologized for disturbing other guests and said they would quiet down.
• Deputies responded to the Green Pleasure Pier regarding a man sleeping inside the restroom at 4 o’clock in the morning.
The deputies contacted the man and told him he could not make the restroom his bedroom. He was cooperative and left the location.
• Deputies on patrol noticed an underage driver driving a golf cart. The deputies conducted a traffic stop and investigation. The deputies cited the 13-year-old driver for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.
May 27
• Deputies responded to a petty theft report call on the 300 block of Whittley Avenue. The caller stated his city issued golf cart sticker was stolen and he did not know who took it.
• Deputies responded to a disturbance call at a hotel on Sumner Avenue.
The caller stated a couple was arguing at the location.
The deputies contacted the man and woman and determined they had been drinking and were at the wrong hotel. The deputies gave the couple a ride to the correct hotel.
May 28
• Deputies responded to a business disturbance on the 100 block of Crescent Avenue.
The caller stated a male adult was at the location standing on the balcony and banging on the window.
The deputies contacted the man and recognized him from previous contacts.
Deputies conducted an investigation and determined the man was under the influence of alcohol. Huely Candelario, 35, of Avalon, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and booked at Avalon Sheriff’s Station.
• Deputies responded to Arrow Point regarding a boat driving in the dive area.
The wayward boater was contacted and warned by Fish and Wildlife officers prior to the deputies’ arrival.
• Deputies responded to a suspicious person at a hotel on Crescent Avenue. The caller stated a female was wrapped in a sheet and sleeping in the courtyard.
The deputies contacted the woman and determined she was trespassing and not a paying guest.
She left the location without incident.
May 29
• Deputies responded to the Plaza regarding a drunk man at the location.
The caller stated the disturbing party was a man who had been arrested numerous times for trespassing and drinking in the Plaza.
The man left the location prior to the deputy’s arrival.
• Deputies on patrol at Two Harbors issued a citation to a parent for allowing his 8-year-old child to operate a personal watercraft.
• Deputies responded to a fight call on Front Street. The caller stated 30 juveniles were fighting at the location. Deputies arrived and noticed numerous juveniles running in different directions.
They also noticed a male juvenile who appeared to be the victim of an assault.
A report was written, and the case is currently under investigation.
May 30
• Deputies responded to a suspicious person call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.
The caller stated a male adult was at the location and refusing to leave.
The deputies contacted the man and encouraged him to leave the location and the business owners said he was not welcomed.
He left without incident.
• Deputies and the Fire Departments responded to a traffic collision at Country Club Drive and Avalon Canyon Road.
The caller stated a golf cart had gone over the side of the road.
The deputies and Fire Departments located the cart and determined no one was injured. The vehicle went off the road and down the hillside due to brake not being applied. The golf cart was safely taken off the hillside and returned to its owner.
May 31
• Deputies responded to Playa Azul regarding a lost cellphone. The caller stated her cellphone was missing and she was able to track it to the location.
Deputies contacted the residents at the location and determined the cellphone was not there.
June 01
• Deputies responded to Avalon School regarding a student utilizing a cellphone application that made gunshot sounds. Deputies contacted school administrators who counseled the student.
