Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of May 22 to May 28, 2019. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
May 22
• Deputies and the L.A. County Probation Office conducted a probation search in the 300 block of Whittley Avenue. The probationer was in compliance with the conditions of his probation.
Deputy personnel met with personnel from the Catalina Island Medical Center and the Tarzana Treatment Center regarding providing substance disorder services to Catalina Island residents in the future.
Deputies arrested Frankie Solorio of Avalon on suspicion of being under the influence of illegal narcotics. The arrest occurred in the 100 block of Metropole Avenue
Deputies arrested Geraldine Dominguez of Avalon on suspicion of transporting methamphetamine to the island with the intent to sale it. The arrest occurred at 1 Cabrillo Mole with a large quantity of narcotics being recovered.
May 23
• Deputies responded to the 200 block of Catalina Avenue regarding a vandalism call. When the owner of a moped returned to her vehicle, someone had damaged the mirror.
May 24
• An Avalon resident reported that someone used her identity and stole $17,008.00 from her bank account. The theft occurred in the city of Summerlin, Nevada.
May 25
• Deputies arrested Martin Alcala from Avalon on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The arrest occurred at Marilla Avenue and Crescent Avenue.
May 26
• Deputies responded to the 700 block of Crescent Avenue regarding an argument between a boyfriend and girlfriend. Deputies determined there were no crimes violated and both parties left together on a boat.
May 27
• Deputies participated in the VFW Island Outpost 4682 and the city of Avalon’s Annual Memorial Day Service at the Avalon Memorial Cemetery.
May 28
• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Whittley Avenue regarding a female arguing with a male in the middle of the street. Both individuals were gone prior to the deputies’ arrival.
