Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of May 20 to May 26, 2020.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are pros secuted do not get convicted.
May 20
• Deputies received a call of a hit and run where the victim’s golf cart was damaged. The investigation revealed a family member ran into the golf cart and will pay for the damages.
May 21
• Deputies received a call of people drinking alcohol in public at Crescent Avenue and Catalina Avenue. Deputies determined people were waiting for their food from a nearby restaurant and were not violating any laws and were complying with social distancing.
May 22
• Deputies received a call of people drinking alcohol in a golf cart in the parking lot above Machine Gun Park. The individuals did not have any open containers of alcohol. They were warned regarding drinking alcohol in public.
May 23
• Deputies were called to Cherry Cove regarding two boats that collided into each other. Two approximately 60-foot vessels were blown into each other and caused minor “expensive” damage. There were no injuries.
May 24
• Isthmus deputies and Baywatch received a call of a lost swimmer near Emerald Bay. A boater found the missing 15-year-old boy down the beach near the shoreline. The boy was not injured.
May 25
• The men and women of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department remembered those who died in active military service on this Memorial Day.
• Deputies were asked to check on the welfare of a homeless man at Machine Gun Park. When the deputies arrived, the man complained of chest pains and requested paramedics. Paramedics responded and the man was transported to the hospital for medical attention.
May 26
• Deputies received a call that someone was inside Vons without wearing a mask. Deputies contacted the person and gave them a mask. The person was then in compliance with the “Safer at Home” Order.
