Sheriff’s Log: June 18 to July 2

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of June 18 to July 2.

June 18

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of June 18 to July 2.

June 18

• A 38-year-old resident of Avalon was arrested for Lewd Acts with a Child.  

The District Attorney’s Office rejected the case.

June 19

• An Avalon resident reported being the victim of an assault in the 200 block of Sumner Avenue at 2:05 A.M.

No arrests were made at the scene.

The investigation into the assault is on-going.

• A 59-year-old resident of Lakewood reported that an adult male exposed himself in the area of Sumner Avenue and Beacon Street at 4:30 P.M. The investigation into the incident is on-going.

June 20

No Significant Incidents.

June 21

• A scooter driven by a 46-year-old Avalon resident collided into a 56-year-old pedestrian near the intersection of Crescent Avenue and Metropole Avenue.

The pedestrian was treated for bone fractures to her elbow and shoulder.  

The driver of the scooter was cited for defective brakes and violating the basic speed law.

June 22

• An off-duty deputy arrested Erik Byrd, M/56, a resident of Lakewood, for battery while he was traveling back to Long Beach from Avalon.

• A cell phone and a set of keys were reportedly stolen from a business in the 200 block of Crescent Avenue.

June 23

• Michael Gangloff, M/21, a resident of Santa Cruz, was arrested for drunk in public.

• A 31-year-old female resident of Costa Mesa was arrested for drunk in public.  During the booking process she alleged that she had been sexually assaulted earlier in the evening.  

Deputies transported the lady to a medical facility in Long Beach for a sexual assault examination.  

The investigation into the incident is on-going.  

June 24

• Nickolas Hajek, M/22, a resident of Newport Beach, was arrested for felony drunk driving after he was involved in a single car traffic accident at Two Harbors.  

He was charged with a felony because a passenger was injured in the accident.

June 26

• Daniel Dillon, M/24, a resident of Two Harbors, was arrested for battery.

June 27

• No significant incidents.

June 28

• No significant incidents.

June 29

• Cristal Mulgado, F/22, a resident of Avalon was arrested for drunk in public and battery.

• Mark Hays, M/24, a resident of Avalon, was arrested for drunk in public.

• John Moody IV, M/33, a resident of Fontana, was arrested for drunk in public.  

June 30

• Deputies participated in a multi-agency rescue operation of a transient boater whose vessel ran aground near Cape Cortes.  

The boater was uninjured and safely transported to Long Beach.

• A resident of Glendora reported being the victim of identity theft.  

Deputies assisted the victim by taking a report for the agency where the crime occurred.  

July 1

• No significant incidents.

July 2

• Scott Root, M/52, a resident of Avalon, was arrested for a petty theft warrant.

• Cody Meador, M/21, a resident of Dana Point, was arrested for drunk in public.

• Avalon Sheriff’s Station personnel greeted the public at the seaside community of Two Harbors.  

The Captain, the Detective Bureau Commander, the Narcotics K-9 Handler along with his dog (Tina), and both deputies assigned to Two Harbors were present at an information booth at Isthmus Plaza.  Deputy personnel provided visitors, residents and campers with safe boating and crime prevention information.  

Children got a chance to meet Tina and receive stickers from the deputies.  

 

Golf Carts

• On June 18, a golf cart was taken from Quail Canyon and found by the owner within an hour near in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue.  

• On June 22, a golf cart was taken from the 100 block of Sumner Avenue and found within a few hours.  

It is believed the driver possibly mistook the golf cart for his own.

• No golf carts were reported stolen this week.
