Sheriff’s Log: July 8 to July 15

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of July 8 to July 15.

“It is important to note that no assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided in this report.  Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested,” said Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Station.

July 8

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of July 8 to July 15.

July 8

Maria Perez, F/23, a resident of Avalon, was arrested for stealing a golf cart from the 200 block of Sumner Avenue.  The golf cart was recovered and returned to its grateful owner.   

July 9

Kirk Williams, M/52, a resident of Avalon, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and defrauding an innkeeper.

• Jose Tovar, M/21, a resident of Avalon, was placed under private persons arrest for battery.

July 10

No significant incidents.

July 11

Two female adult residents of Avalon were involved in an altercation in the parking lot of 130 Clarissa Court, resulting in minor injuries to both women.  Neither party was desirous of prosecution.

• An Avalon resident reported a trespass to her property in the 300 block of Sumner Avenue.

•  An Avalon resident was rear-ended near the intersection of Beacon Street and Clemente Avenue.  The resident received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

• An Avalon resident reported being the victim of theft by fraud.  The resident accepted an offer to purchase a gift card.  He then provided information electronically from the gift card to an unknown person who promised he could invest the money and guaranteed a return of ten times the investment.  The victim lost $500.00.

•  Two residents of San Diego, who were staying on a cruise ship in Avalon Harbor, reported their wedding rings were stolen from their room.

July 12

Juan Bustamante, M/34, a resident of Irvine, was arrested for drunk driving after being involved in a single-vehicle golf cart accident in the 100 block of Marilla Avenue.

•  Efrain Palacios, M/34, a resident of Long Beach, was arrested for drunk driving after being involved in a hit and run accident in the 200 block of Sumner Avenue.

• An Avalon resident reported being the victim of a hit and run near the intersection of Beacon Street and Sumner Avenue.  The incident resulted in property damage only.

July 13

An Avalon resident reported his wife as missing after not hearing from her for several days. No foul play is suspected.

July 14

No significant incidents.

July 15

An Avalon resident reported a set of keys were stolen from his golf cart while it was parked on Avalon Terrace.

• Colleen Villegas, F/25, a resident of Inglewood, was arrested for drunk in public.

Golf carts

One golf cart was reported stolen this week.  

It was recovered the next morning by Denny Honsey who learned it was not stolen, but accidentally taken by a vacationer who believed it was his golf cart.
