The following is the Avalon’s Sheriff’s Stations significant incidents report for the period of July 20 to July 26, 2023.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
July 19
- A sergeant on patrol observed the passenger of a golf cart with an open container of alcohol. He conducted a traffic stop and issued the passenger for the violation.
July 20
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call on the 100 block of Sumner Avenue at 230 in the morning. The caller stated the TV was extremely loud in one of the hotel rooms and the occupant was not answering the door. The deputies awoke the man from his slumber and asked him to lower the volume on his television while he enjoyed his late-night reruns. The man was cooperative.
- Deputies responded to Lower Terrace regarding a grand theft report call. The caller stated his blue wagon and luggage were taken. The stolen items included 2 electric skateboards and an underwater scooter. A report was written and Detective Meyers is actively working the case. July 21
- Deputies were contacted via telephone at Avalon Station by a tourist who stated his medication was stolen. The man (tourist) said during a recent visit the housekeepers at a local hotel stole his prescription opioids. The deputies and detective conducted an investigation and interviewed employees. During the investigation the tourist called the station and said he was sorry, getting old and actually forgot to pack his meds.
July 22
- Deputies responded to the 100 block of Sumner Avenue regarding a man and woman arguing at the location. They contacted the man and saw he was bleeding from his mouth and had scratches on his face. The man said he was assaulted by his girlfriend during an argument. The deputies arrested Trinity Lewis, 21, of Los Angeles, on suspicion of domestic battery and she was booked at Avalon Station.
- A deputy and sergeant responded to a vandalism call at the Cabrillo Mole. The caller stated a subject had graffitied the men’s restroom and was being followed by a city employee. The sergeant located the subject and detained him pending a criminal investigation. During the investigation, the deputy located approximately $1000 in estimated damages. The subject was detained and issued a citation.
July 23
- A deputy was patrolling Sumner Avenue at approximately 2am. He saw a man standing on the street and having difficulty keeping his balance. The deputy contacted the man to check in his wellbeing. While talking to the man, the deputy noticed the man was extremely intoxicated and unable to care for himself. Jack Espinoza, 26, of Oceanside, was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication and booked at Avalon Station.
July 24
- Deputies responded to the 100 block of Metropole Avenue regarding a family disturbance. The informant stated he heard yelling and items being slammed inside the apartment. The deputies contacted the man and woman and determined there was no evidence of any crime. They were a young couple trying to comfort a crying baby.
July 25
- Deputies responded to a disturbance call at the arcade. The caller stated a male at the location was getting aggressive. The deputies contacted the disturbing party and determined no crime had been committed. The man was a passionate gamer trying to achieve a personal best score.
Safety Note
August 1, 2023 Avalon Station will celebrate National Night Out. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.
Avalon Sheriff’s Station will set up their national Night Display on Crescent Avenue near the fountain.
The display will include an array of the Avalon Sheriff’s Station fleet.
The vehicles on display include the Search and Rescue Truck & Trailer, The Sheriff’s Patrol Jeep as well as the newly assigned Ford Explorer patrol vehicle and T3 electric trikes.
Captain King along with Avalon Station personnel and volunteers will work the event and interact with the community.
The event includes handouts covering bicycle safety, crime prevention, maritime safety and recruitment of station volunteers. During the event Avalon Station staff will speak to residents regarding concerns in the community. The staff will also speak to numerous families regarding the experience of being an Avalon Deputy.
The event will be coordinated by retired Avalon Station Deputy Doug Decesare, Captain King and Sergeant Kline.
Fishing Pole giveaway Aug. 9
Avalon Station will once again partner with Ron Hasson AKA (Friends of Pancho Villa) in a fishing pole giveaway. The event will take place on August 9, 2023 at 2 p.m.
