Editor’s note: The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of
Jan. 8 to Jan. 11, 2020.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.
January 8
• A victim reported her bicycle was stolen from the 100 block of Metropole Avenue. Deputies conducted an investigation and found the bicycle at 358 Metropole Avenue. The bicycle had already been repainted when the deputies found it. Deputies collected surveillance video of the area. The investigation is ongoing.
January 9
• Deputies arrested Michael Forcella from Avalon for allegations of sexual assault. The arrest occurred in the 100 block of Metropole Avenue.
• Deputies arrested Garrett Maranon from Norwalk for allegedly violating a court order and on the basis of three outstanding arrest warrants totaling $65,000.
January 10
• Deputies arrested a 14-year-old juvenile for allegedly driving without a license in the 100 block of Metropole Avenue. The juvenile was released to his parents. (You must have a valid driver’s license to drive a vehicle in the city of Avalon.)
January 11
• A 52-year-old man from the city of Inglewood was on a charter fishing trip off of Catalina Island when he suffered a medical emergency and died. Isthmus Baywatch and Two Harbor deputies handled the incident.
• Deputies arrested Dominic Patrick from Avalon for allegedly disturbing the peace at a business in the 100 block of Sumner Avenue. The business manager gave him numerous warnings to leave the business before they called the deputies.
January 12
• Deputies responded to the Avalon Harbor Department regarding intoxicated males swimming in the harbor. Working together with the Harbor Department, deputies were able to get the males back to their boat safely.
January 13
• Deputies arrested Sheena Moreira from Hilo, Hawaii, on the basis of an outstanding narcotic warrant in the sum of $25,000. The arrest occurred in the 400 block of Crescent Avenue.
January 14
• Deputies arrested Phillip Lopez from Avalon for allegations of assault that occurred in the 100 block of Clarissa Avenue. During the investigation, deputies recovered a handgun from the residence.
