Sheriff’s Log for May 14 to 20

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of May 14 to May 20. “It is important to note that no assumption of criminal guilt or affiliation should be drawn from the content of the information provided in this report.  Many people who get arrested do not get convicted or even charged with crimes for which they have been arrested,” said Capt. Doug Fetteroll, commander of the Station.

May 14

Deputies participated in a mandatory bicycle patrol training class.

May 14

Deputies participated in a mandatory bicycle patrol training class.

• Kirk Williams, M/52, an Avalon resident, was arrested, by a deputy on a patrol bicycle, for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

• A victim reported that someone stole $100 from her unattended purse in the 200 block of Sumner Avenue.

May 15

•  Estaban Pedroza, M/21, an Avalon resident, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

May 16

• A victim reported that someone stole a camera from his unattended golf cart in the 100 block of Catalina Avenue.

• An Avalon resident was cited for violating the leash law and for failure to collect dog waste in the 300 block of Tremont Avenue.

May 17

• Deputies assisted with the Gran Fondo.  No significant incidents occurred during the event.

• A bicycle was reported stolen from the 200 block of Sumner Avenue.  The theft was captured on a security camera.

May 18

• The Avalon Sheriff’s Station held a memorial bicycle ride for fallen peace officers.  Prior to the ride, three recent and six historical officers from Los Angeles County who were killed in the line of duty were honored.   Additionally, Levent Alkibay of the Catalina Beverage Company, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tucey, Randy Herrel of the Santa Catalina Island Company, and Mesa Bradley of Brown’s Bikes were presented with beautiful stone awards, hand-made by Tim Winslow, for their generous donations of four bicycles to the Sheriff’s bicycle patrol program.  Deputies, sponsors, City Manager Ben Harvey and residents showed their support and respect for the fallen officers as they rode along the waterfront before partaking in a tour of Avalon Sheriff’s Station.

May 19

• Deputies recovered the bicycle that was stolen on May 17, 2014. The investigation into the theft of the bicycle is on-going.  

May 20

• No significant incidents.

Golf carts

There were no golf carts thefts reported in Avalon this week.
