Sheriff’s Log: Dec. 23-29, 2021

The following is the Avalon Sheriff’s Station significant incidents report for the week of Dec. 23 to Dec. 29, 2021. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Many people who are arrested do not get prosecuted in the first place and many who are prosecuted do not get convicted.

December 23

• Deputies responded to the Green Pleasure Pier regarding a vandalism report call for service.  The deputies determined a vandalism had occurred in the men’s restroom.  A crime report was written and the case is currently under investigation.

• Deputies responded to the Cabrillo Mole regarding a vandalism report call for service.  The deputies determined a vandalism had occurred in the men’s restroom.  They also determined the vandalism (graffiti) was the same tagging they observed at the Green Pleasure Pier.  During their investigation the deputies detained a male juvenile who admitted to being a “tagger”.  The case is currently being investigated by Avalon Station Detectives.

December 24

• Deputies responded to the 300 block of Catalina Avenue regarding an alarm going off in the area.  The deputies were able to locate the address and contacted the owner who was able to disarm the alarm.  There was no evidence of any crime or fire at the location.

• Deputies along with the Fire Departments responded to Pebbly Beach Road regarding a rockslide.  The deputies closed the roadway while the Fire Departments and public works cleared the roadway of debris.

December 25

• Deputies responded to the Cabrillo Mole regarding a female adult feeling weak and dizzy.  The Fire Departments arrived and transported the female to the Catalina Island Medical Center for evaluation.

December 26

• Deputies responded to a loud music call on the 300 block of Wrigley Terrace Road (“The Cross”.  The deputies contacted several individuals and warned them regarding creating a disturbance.  The parties were cooperative and left the location.

December 27

• Deputies responded to “Bird Park” regarding a family disturbance.  Deputies determined there was no crime committed at the location.  They advised the involved parties to seek a child custody order from court.

December 28

• Deputies responded to an assault call on the 300 block of Sumner Avenue.  The informant stated a fight had occurred.  While talking to the informant the sheriff’s dispatcher could hear yelling in the background.  Upon arrival, deputies contacted two males who admitted to being involved in a fight with each other.  Both males declined to press charges and were not willing to make a private person’s arrest.

• Deputies responded to a disturbance between a boyfriend and girlfriend on the 300 block of Sumner Avenue.  The informant stated she was arguing with her boyfriend because he was lying to her regarding being placed in the “Drunk Tank” at the Sheriff’s Station.  The deputies contacted both parties and determined the girlfriend was upset because her boyfriend came home drunk.  There was no evidence of any crime at the location.

• Deputies responded to a juvenile disturbance call at the “Library.”  The informant stated there were unruly children inside the library.  The deputies advised the informant and library staff they will conduct periodic checks and walk thru the location.

SAFETY NOTE

We have noticed an increase in parking violations throughout the city.  These violations create a safety hazard for our Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department and citizens.  The Sheriff’s Department, Code Enforcement and Fire Department will be enforcing City of Avalon Parking Regulations and issuing warnings and citations.  The cost of these citations will range from $47 to $404 dollars.
